Meet Me In St. Gallen – Hugot Edition

The first thing that drew me into watching Spring Films and Viva Films’ movie Meet Me In St. Gallen was Moira dela Torre’s sedate version of You Are My Sunshine that made me both pensive and sleepy. The second thing that attracted me to it was

Carlo Aquino and his almost irresistible character in the film. Someone the younger would fall in love with many times over.

Meet Me In St. Gallen features Bela Padilla as Celeste Francisco and Aquino as Jesse Abaya and is directed by Irene Emma Villamor. Celeste is a feisty and free spirited graphic artist while Jesse is a medical student whose passion is singing in a band. Celeste and Jesse, whose names coincide with the title of a romantic comedy Celeste and Jesse Forever, are strangers who spend a magical night together talking, dancing, and drinking. The moments are so perfect that neither wants to break the illusion and they part as they meet – as strangers.

As fate would have it, Celeste and Jesse meet once again, four years after their initial encounter, as different people. Will their one magical night together survive the passage of time? Will their dream to visit St. Gallen, the Christmas Village, bring a happy ending to their almost-there-but-not-quite relationship?
