I watched Star Cinema’s Unexpectedly Yours without any expectation aside from watching Robin Padilla smile on the big screen. 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised that this Cathy Garcia-Molina helmed film is an entertaining one. Yes, there are traces of pabebe that do not befit the status and age of Sharon Cuneta and Robin Padilla, but the Shabin (Sharon and Robin) tandem makes the pabebe scenes work to their advantage.

It helps that Sharon, as Chief Marketing Officer and perfect specimen of a woman Patty Ignacio, is game to make fun of herself, especially her size, and be a good sport about it. As Patty’s mom Catalina, played marvelously by Pilar Pilapil, she is pretty but huge, but pretty nonetheless. I can say it without uncertainty that Sharon Cuneta has no wrinkles and no pores. She has perfect skin!!!

Robin, as seaman Cocoy Manlangit, is still makalaglag-panty pogi. His gaze is so potent that he must have impregnated all the women in the theater. Robin’s Cocoy has swagger, sweetness that can thaw Snow Queen Elsa’s ice castle, and delivery of pick-up lines that only that hot tambay in the kanto can do without stammering.

As high school batchmates whose paths crossed 35 years later, Patty and Cocoy relive what it is to be in high school – from having crushes to falling in love, with dates and dances in between. Lakas maka-bagets ng Unexpectedly Yours.

Joshua Garcia as Cocoy’s nephew Jason and Julia Barretto as Patty’s daughter Yanni are more than decent in this film. Joshua is adorable although he has to work on his speech to pronounce words correctly. Julia is gorgeous, and the girl can cry and look natural doing it!

Overall I enjoyed Star Cinema’s Unexpectedly Yours. I am sure those who watched with me in Robinsons Magnolia did as well, we were all so kilig with Shabin!
