Never Not Love You – Hugot Edition

“Ang pag-ibig ay bullshit.” (Love is bullshit) – Never Not Love You Movie Poster

Viva Films’ and Project 8 Corner San Joaquin Projects’ Never Not Love You is a romantic drama film directed by Antoinette Jadaone. Never Not Love You stars James Reid as Gio Smith and Nadine Lustre as Joanne Candelaria. Gio, a freelance graphic artist, meets Joanne, a hardworking account executive with a five-year plan, in Squid Ink, the tattoo parlor where he works. Gio falls head over heels immediately, but Joanne does not reciprocate rather easily. After what seems like days of spending in their little world together, where they eat together, dance together and have eyes only for each other, Joanne moves in with Gio. The couple continues to live happily ever after with Sugarfree’s Prom as their lives’ soundtrack until Gio receives an opportunity to work in London.

Will Gio’s job put a screeching halt to their romantic overdrive? Will Joanne put her personal dreams of being a brand manager in the back burner to be a supportive girlfriend to Gio? Will Gio and Joanne succeed in never not loving each other amidst their respective financial needs?

It was the first time I watched a movie starring James Reid and Nadine Lustre, collectively known as Jadine, so I went inside the cinema without any expectation. I came out not disappointed.

Never Not Love You is a pretty decent movie with a cohesive story. Some of the lines are repetitive and the ending is a little rushed and a tad forced. However, these things are forgivable in my book because the movie is intriguing. It is a departure from the usual flicks that feature young tandems because it has grit. In terms of acting, James Reid looks more natural onscreen than Nadine Lustre. Miss Lustre is pretty, but she has limited facial expressions. It is hard to be emotionally involved in her story if her overjoyed face is the same as her miserable look, which is also the same as her enraged state.
