Hello, Love, Goodbye – Hugot Edition

Hello, Love, Goodbye is Star Cinema’s romantic drama film starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards. It is helmed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.

Hello, Love, Goodbye follows the lives of Joy Marie Fabregas (Kathryn Bernardo), a Filipina domestic helper in Hong Kong who seems to have the busiest schedule on earth, and Ethan del Rosario (Alden Richards) who seems to have all the time in the world to send messages and call the busiest girl on the planet.

I am sure at least a hundred reviews of Hello, Love, Goodbye have been written by the time I post this, so I will make this brief and proceed to the hugot lines.

I will write five things that caught my attention. First, Kathryn looked fantastic even at her unglamorous state. That is what you call true beauty. She ran and sweated and had her hair in all directions, but the girl was gorgeous. Second, Joy’s talent portion in the Bb. Central 2019 was a riot. Kathryn just let go and belted out the song, albeit out of tune, without any fears. That is courage (for her character. She looked like she smiled at the end of the number, so she herself must have found her singing funny and … fun). Third, Joross Gamboa’s Jhim and Lovely Abella’s Gina made the movie a little light. Their lines were delivered well and the messages were well received without taking anything away from the gravity of the relatively dramatic scenes. Fourth, the scene between Joy and JM (Jerome Ponce) was just too sad and too real. Kudos to Joy for admitting that she was a domestic helper in Hong Kong. Fifth, the stay or leave scene between Joy and Ethan gave me chills. It was raw, emotional, and both Kathryn and Alden were phenomenal in it.

Honorable mention: When the youngest brother of Ethan arrived at the airport, my first thought was, ‘this family won the genetic lottery!’.

  1. Ethan : “Then I’ll take whatever you can give. Hanggang sa kung saan kayang ibigay ng panahon para mahalin natin ang isat-isa..”
    Felt that. 💗

  2. thanks for this… love every lines and every hugots they have on this movies. ito yung realidad ng mundo bilang OFW’s at nagmamahal.

    1. Anak made me weep. I think it was the first time I cried inside a theater while watching a film. Thank you for reminding me of that brilliant work of art.

The team of Hello, Love, Goodbye must be proud of their realistic depiction of the lives of OFWs. 😊

And I do not think it is selfish to put yourself first from time to time. You (generally speaking) deserve it.

  4. Bat wala po yung dialogue ni ethan na natatakot sya kung sino magiging kasama makakausap ni joy sa canada? Pano kung may pumorma sa kanya don? Bat wala po? 😂🙏

  5. You forgot my favorite line from Ethan; ‘I’m sorry if I made you feel that you need to apologize kase may pangarap ka.’

  6. I’ve watched Family History and Hello Love Goodbye. I was very much entertained and alive watching Family History. Hello Love Goodbye did not amuse me that much because I was waiting for more remarkable impact of story build up to arouse my curiosity. I heard more good comments/reactions from moviegoers after watching Family History while there were no reactions from moviegoers after stepping out of the cinema. I highly recommend to watch FAMILY HISTORY which is a feel good movie.

    1. Hi, Emily!

Thank you for your informative comment.

I have not watched Family History, but I assume that it is a different type of film than Hello, Love, Goodbye. I think that Hello, Love, Goodbye is primarily about the fresh tandem of Kathryn and Alden while Family History is plot driven. I reckon that they have different levels of depth in terms of story and acting. Hence, they target different types of audience.

I am glad that you were entertained by Family History. I had fun watching HLG. It took a while but I am now a fan of Kathryn. Watching her tackle more mature roles and going out of her comfort zone (not being paired with Daniel) made me watch this movie with a different degree of enthusiasm.

I watch Filipino movies because of two reasons: 1) I like the actors, and 2) I like the premise of the movie. More often than not, I exit the theater with a smile on my face. And for me, that is the most important thing.

I heard that Family History has positive reviews. I hope they encourage more people to watch it.

      I wish both films well.

      Roselee
