Bamboo Café (Camotes Islands, Cebu)

Bamboo Café is the main dining place of Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort in Camotes Island, Cebu. True to its name, the structure is primarily made from bamboo topped with thatched roof. It is airy (which is very much welcome in a warm place) and welcoming.

It offers Filipino and Asian dishes, with selected European cuisine as well. It is also the venue of the buffet breakfast for the guests of the resort.

During the two nights we were there, there were acoustic singers who rendered OPM and foreign songs for at least three hours. They also performed songs requested by the resort guests. They were entertaining and their music reached other parts of Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort. We listened to them while we had hilot by the beach.

Breakfast buffet at 6am. We had to leave at 7am to tour the islands. I am not embarrassed to admit that I enjoyed the food. I had 2.5 plates of food, two glasses of juice, and three glasses of water on my first morning there. On my second morning, I had three plates of food (two were more like saucers), two glasses of juice, two small cups of tablea chocolate drink, and one glass of water. The chorizo was to die for.

The banana loaf was decent but I did not touch the pudding.

The puto cheese was okay.

Chicken cashew nuts and breaded fish. I skipped the chicken and had the fish. The fish was dory, so it was not memorable.

Dangit and beef tapa. Both of them were yum!!!

Bamboo Café’s bagnet, P330.00 (US $6.60). This tasted way better than it looked. I thought I ordered binagoongan or kare-kare, but this crunchy bagnet was oh-so-heavenly. Every morsel was dripping with flavor.

Calamares, P230.00 (US $4.60). Juan chose this one. He enjoyed the sauce that accompanied it. I thought it was a little oily and the squid rings were a little too tiny.
