My first encounter of Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe was a mouthful of its brazos de Mercedes. It was delicate with the perfect balance of creaminess and sweetness. Within a week after that love at first bite, I found myself in Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe in Katipunan Avenue ordering two desserts - banana nutella and blueberry cheesecake. From then on, Mom and Tina’s became my default place when I visit Katipunan.
I found out recently that Mom and Tina’s branch in Makati is bigger than the one in Katipunan Avenue but it has similar friendly and accommodating staff.
Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe’s Paella Valenciana, P295.00 (US $6.18). The paella valenciana was the most flavorful food on the table. I had it in the Katipunan branch and remembered it to be good. The chicken packed a lot of flavor and was juicy.
Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe’s Meat Spaghetti, P255.00 (US $5.34). My companion said that the spaghetti tastes like something one could whip up at home. I agree wholeheartedly. It is bland.
Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe’s Chicken N Chips, P255.00 (US $5.34). The chicken and the fries were crisp but not dry.
Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe’s Dark Toblerone Walnut Torte, P140.00 (US $2.93). It was not as sweet as the mocha fudge cupcake, and its layers complement each other.
Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe’s Caramel Butter Cake, P150.00 (US $3.14). This was recommended to me by one of the staff. I am an avid fan chocolate cakes so I was hesitant to order it, but it was okay. The caramel was overly sweet, which is how I like my desserts. The rest was an antidote of the caramel, which balances the overall taste and sweetness level.
Mom and Tina’s Bakery Cafe’s Brazo de Mercedes, P295.00 (US $6.18) one roll. It tasted as heavenly as my first mouthful of Mom and Tina’s Brazo de Mercedes. All is right with the world again!
