Elections 2016 - Campaign Materials, Part I

Local and national elections in the Philippines are long, gruelling, rowdy, festive punctuated by a number of assassinations, and exorbitant. Campaigning costs an arm and a leg due to the increasing number of voters that candidates need to satisfy/entertain/convince by being visible on TV, print and radio, supporters that need to eat, hangers-on that need shirts, ballers and fans, and the actors that need to get paid for endorsing the candidates out of “goodwill”. Vote buying is also an option for the segurista (candidates who want assurance to win).

In a little over two months, Filipinos will vote for the president who will the country for the next six years. I hope Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will win it and fulfill even a quarter of his promises. I will be overjoyed if that happens. Since I am supporting Mayor Duterte, this entry is all about campaign materials for him, by and from his supporters. Ballers made by Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s supporters. “Tapang at malasakit” (bravery and concern) is a tagline synonymous with his name.

Thumbs-up and Superman pose are popularized as Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s signature moves.

Martin Diño, one of the popular supporters of Mayor Duterte, did the thumbs-up sign as he smiled for the camera. He was holding his MRRD NECC membership card.

One of four life-sized standees I saw of Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s supporters had photos with his standee and showed his Superman pose.

The members of the Philippine Seafarers’ Group (PSG) with their own Mayor Duterte shirt design doing the Superman pose.

Since Mayor Rodrigo Duterte does not have millions of pesos to burn, he encourages his supporters to make their own campaign materials to help him win the presidential elections. It is the bayanihan spirit at its hilt.

What are you waiting for? Make a poster or print some stickers for Mayor Duterte. Change is coming.
