La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) From the Words of the Thieves – Part 5 (Episodes 3 to 4)

Netflix’s La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) continues to tease with episodes 4 and 5 of Part 5.

Well, Arturo (Enrique Arce) is still alive. The character is the cockroach in this series, he just cannot die. At least four thieves with city names have died in different levels of gruesomeness since the premiere of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), but Arturo, the guy who cannot find his own @$$ even with a map, continues to live and breathe, although barely now. What kind of plot armor does he have?

The third and fourth episodes showcase the return to power of Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna) as he rallies the group to return to reality as Stockholm (Esther Acebo) struggles with her guilt after she shoots Arturo (I would forgive her any day for doing so) and his speech about soccer and slow defeat. I have to admit that Arturo’s tiki-taka comparison is more fun, but Palermo displays his wit that can somewhat rival that of Berlin’s (Pedro Alonso). No wonder they got along so well. If he were my coach, I would follow him to the ends of the world and we could hang out with Berlin’s ghost.

Finally, Manila (Belén Cuesta) has a longer screen time and has the time to put her gun down enough to narrate her relationship with her miner father and the hardships she experienced growing up as a trans. Another father-offspring relationship to the forefront is Berlin and Rafael’s (Patrick Criado). They argue about the definition of art, their first heist together, and how to steal something from someone what one really wants in life. Does this mean that Rafael will be a member of the red jumpsuit team in Part 5 Volume 2? And will he betray Berlin for Tatiana’s (Diana Gómez) affections?

And yes, Alicia’s (Najwa Nimri) water breaks while she totes her a at The Professor (Álvaro Morte), Benjamín (Ramón Agirre), and Marseille (Luka Peroš). The three men watches and coaches her between contractions, but Alicia is such a badass that she wans to give birth alone. Alicia says, “I don’t go to the Philippines”. I wish to invite her to come and visit once her child is older and has Covid-vaccination so they can see some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. While The Professor is delivering a baby, his own babies are being attacked by the military.

Helsinki (Darko Perić) gets trapped under the rubble and may or may not have his leg cut off. I hope he can keep his leg so this bear from the Balkans can continue his thieving ways. Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Denver (Jaime Lorente), and Manila are separated from the group that rescued Helsinki and are surrounded by the rabid military group. I hope Tokyo and friends will survive it with minor scrapes. Although the appearance of Nairobi (Alba Flores) and her talk with Tokyo about the afterlife is a clue that the latter is going to have more than just minor scrapes.

Quotes from Part 5 Episode 3:  Welcome to the Spectacle of Life La Casa de Papel (Money Heist):

“Please stop, you’re frying a dead body.” – Palermo or Martín or The Engineer (Rodrigo de la Serna)

“You executed him. Accept it.” – Palermo

“He was dead a minute ago, and he’ll be dead again when you stop blowing air into his lungs. Do you understand?” – Palermo

“This fucking goddamn crazy son of a bitch kept asking for it. You shot him twice. You did good. But now you feel guilty. Now, you want to assuage your guilt by tossing a bucket of shit on us. I can’t allow that. You keep your conscience clean. Mine’s already dirty. I’ll finish him off.” – Palermo

“As Stockholm watched Arturo hanging between life and death, she felt like a murderer. She realized she’d cut her son’s last safety net and now Cincinnati was on his own. After all, Arturo was the kid’s biological father. It made Stockholm feel certain that neither she nor Denver would ever see Cincinnati again. But she wasn’t the only one feeling the weight and responsibility of having a child. Our lives depended on three guys who were tied up and held at gunpoint. Under other circumstances, they would have given up, but Benjamin had a child inside the bank. And the Professor had us.” – Tokyo or Silene Oliveira (Úrsula Corberó)

“They didn’t resuscitate anyone. They killed him in cold blood. The best thing that could happen is for that man to die in the next ten minutes. They gave us a gift and I’ll use it to finish them off. No law, no rights! We’ll shoot them in the back even if they’re on their knees! But before we do, I need everyone to believe they’re all fucking murderers.” – Colonel Luis Tamayo (Fernando Cayo)

“Why am I here? What am I doing here? I’m shooting people while my kid is with some monks. When he’s older and he hears about this, he’ll ask about me and I don’t want him to know who I was. I’ve fucked up my son’s whole life.” – Stockholm or Mónica Gaztambide (Esther Acebo)

“My dad also thinks he fucked up my life but I love him to death. A miner with a trans daughter back in the ‘90s. He made a ton of mistakes. When I was five, I came up to my dad and said, “Daddy, I’m a girl. Okay? He looked at me with that serious miner face and said, “Juan, you are a man. And men cannot be girls.”” – Manila or Julia (Belén Cuesta)

“Nobody in our neighborhood. There were a lot of pickpockets, burglars. There were junkies, a lot of them. But there wasn’t anyone who was trans. Back in those days, whenever a man was dressed up as a woman on TV, it was just a big joke, just for people to laugh. And my dad would be the first one to crack up. But I forgive him now because, the truth is, I didn’t have any role models. But neither did he. I think the natural state of parenthood is just plain confusion. And at the end of the day, it’s not about doing everything the right way. It’s about loving.” – Manila

“And we chose, specifically for you, a robbery with no risk. Basically just to enjoy it.” – Berlin or Andrés de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso)

“It’ll be the perfect evening. Luxury cars, tuxedos, cocktails, classical music, and 12 kilos of gold.” – Berlin

“You’re a total cynic.” – Rafael de Fonollosa (Patrick Criado)

“We’re giving the dignity back to this gold.” – Berlin

“We’re the ones who will make art. This heist will be unforgettable.” – Berlin

“Your girlfriend, the Power Ranger you love so much, the teddy bear from the Balkans, the kid from the grave … all those people you’re willing to die for. Your people, they’re already dead. But I can stop all of that.” – Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri)

“Shut up x infinity. Shut your mouth! I need to think!” – Alicia Sierra

“Her water broke.” – Benjamín (Ramón Agirre)

“Not now, not now, not now.” – Alicia Sierra

“I can raise a child in prison perfectly well. Maternity ward. That’s how you do it.” – Alicia Sierra

“Our first defense strategy was to move the weapons to a safe place. But rather than a bunker, if felt like we were digging our own graves. Without the Professor, we felt like orphans. No father, no plan, no hope.” – Tokyo

“This is our last dance, Fatty. Make it a good one.” – Palermo

“Pardon the soccer reference, but it’s appropriate for the circumstances. Sometimes, during the World Cup finals, you know which team is gonna lose by the look of fear in the players’ faces as they sing the anthem. And that type of fear is what I’m seeing here, right now. But that’s all about to change.” – Palermo

“In soccer, it’s 11 against 11. We’re ten against 10,000 without a coach.” – Denver or Daniel or Ricardo Ramos (Jaime Lorente)

“Alicia Sierra no longer plays for the police.” – Palermo

“Now, you’re a midwife, too?” – Alicia Sierra

“We don’t need to win this war. In fact, we’re going to lose it but at a slow pace. And you my boys and girls in red, we, we’re the fucking dregs of the society, a team with the biggest losers in history: trans, criminals, scumbags, gays, Balkans, Latinos … What the fuck can they teach us about losing? We know the terrible feeling of a slow defeat. We know it. So it’s just another day as losers.” – Palermo

“I graduated as an engineer, but my vocation is a general in the infantry.” – Palermo

“I’m gonna give birth alone. Same way my grandma did, and hundreds of other women throughout history. Like this. Welcome to the spectacle of liiiiiife!” – Alicia Sierra

“Denver, say goodbye to her. It’ll be a long night. And this might be our final one.” – Palermo

“Look, you can hate me as much as you want. You can wish me dead if you want. Whatever. But, unfortunately, right now, to save your life and your child, you need to save mine. Right at this moment, we’re equals.” – The Professor or Salvador “Salva” Martín or Sergio Marquina (Álvaro Morte)

“You and I aren’t equals, you piece of shit. You’re here to break the law. I’m here to stop you. Jesus. And that’s what I’m exactly going to do.” – Alicia Sierra

“Don’t talk to me like I’m one of you. I won’t spend my life on the run, especially now. I don’t run away. I don’t hide. I don’t go the Philippines. I don’t go the Philippines. I actually liked my life. I like Madrid. And lamb chops. And the Puerta del Sol. And the corruption. And I’m not losing my fucking country because of you, asshole.” – Alicia Sierra

“This child adores risk, you son of a bitch! Ahhhh. Fuck!” – Alicia Sierra

“Are you really saying that Sierra’s dignity is more important than the safety of 47 million people?” – Colonel Luis Tamayo

“Well go in by making that ceiling fly!” – Colonel Luis Tamayo

“If the Virgin Mary appears before you dancing the reggaeton, don’t stop melting.” –  Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian)

Quotes from Part 5 Episode 4:  Your Place in Heaven La Casa de Papel (Money Heist):

“Fatty!” – Palermo or Martín or The Engineer (Rodrigo de la Serna)

“We thought we were at war so many times before this. But only because we didn’t know what a war actually was.” – Tokyo or Silene Oliveira (Úrsula Corberó)

“Rock and roll.” – Berlin or Andrés de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso)

“You just tossed 12 kilos of gold. That’s 15 million euros. How the fuck is that educating me?” – Rafael Fonollosa (Patrick Criado)

“Look at you. Only a true thief feels like he owns someone else’s property. Now you know that you’re really one of us. So, next time, you can leave all of that arrogance and moral superiority behind and never call your father a cynic ever again. And now … let’s enjoy.” – Berlin

“We’ll be living every thief’s dream: leaving the heist to applause, with people taking pictures of us. We’ll be happy, relaxed, determined, and so in love. And above all suspicion-free.” – Berlin

“Just a tantrum. I never know if he’s tired, hungry, or gassy.” – Berlin

“I never took you to play tennis, or ride a bike uphill or to rowing someplace. Because doing those kinds of things wouldn’t teach you anything you don’t already know. But here you learn. If you really want something in life, you have to steal it from somebody else. That’s the story of the world, my son.” – Berlin

“You’re the sexiest woman in the world but I love you for your brains.” – The Professor or Salvador “Salva” Martín or Sergio Marquina (Álvaro Morte)

“Are you breastfeeding or should I bring a bottle?” – Marseille (Luka Peroš)

“All I want is a fair war.” – The Professor

“You don’t get calls from the President. You’re not held accountable before the government, right? Then, I think you should just go get some fucking cookies and let me give the orders around here.” – Colonel Luis Tamayo (Fernando Cayo)

“Today nobody is dying.” – Manila or Julia (Belén Cuesta)

Tokyo: Holy shit. We get an hour break and everyone just wants to fuck? I mean, what is this place? A summer camp for teenagers?

Nairobi: Well, if Rio were here, what do you think you’d be doing?

Tokyo: Think you need a few more pictures of Jesus in here?

Nairobi: They’re my boyfriends. And also my bodyguards. They protect Helsinki and me.

Tokyo: Shit. This guy shouldn’t be allowed to leave this room. I’m sorry to say it, but if I die, I don’t wanna see any of these guys.

Nairboi: Yeah.

Tokyo: What do you think happens?

Nairobi: What, after they shoot us in the head?

Tokyo: Do you think we go someplace?

Nairobi: Well, no.

Tokyo: Seriously?

Nairobi: Nada.

Tokyo: You think so? That everything’s over?

Nairobi: Not everything, no. You leave your memory.

Tokyo: And how do you wanna be remembered?

Nairobi: Well, I don’t know. I guess, I’d like people to say that, that they shared things with me. But you know, something that’s real. I don’t know, like for instance, friendship. Okay, you know how people say, “Yeah, I got a lot of friends”? So what? Just having friends isn’t enough. You gotta really feel them. You think Helsinki won’t remember me every fucking Christmas for the rest of his life?

Tokyo: I’ll always remember you saying, “I’m going.”

Nairobi: I’m going where?

Tokyo: Going into the lion’s den to rescue Rio.

Nairobi: Come on. Babe

Tokyo: I do think there’s something. Actually, I believe that you keep on living in the final thought you have the moment before you die. So when the chaos happens, I always think about when I was happiest. So I’ll stay and live in those memories forever.

Nairobi: Well, I think that’s a beautiful plan.

“Tokyo! A little bird just told me that Nairobi is saving you a place in heaven.” – César Gandía (José Manuel Poga)
