La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) From the Words of the Thieves – Part 5 (Episode 5)

To say that episode 5 of Part 5 Netflix’s La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) is Tokyo-centric will be apt. I will just post my notes while watching it since I am still processing what happened in the last few seconds of that cliffhanger. O-M-G. What just happened?

My notes:

  • Tokyo the Legend is born.
  • I did not know that Berlin was such a fan of Tokyo. He even thinks that what she does is art. I am glad to learn about it.
  • Story behind Tokyo’s name.
  • Longer version of The Professor and Tokyo’s meeting.
  • Rio showing Tokyo the Dipper and the Polaris is cute.
  • Alicia and her baby Victoria. Awww. I have a nagging feeling Alicia will be part of the red jumpsuit gang soon.
  • Marseille and Benjamin arguing about Victoria’s pink things is cute.
  • Tokyo’s death is like losing the crown jewel in a collection of precious metals and gems. But she goes out with a bomb (almost literally) and like the boss that she is.
  • Did Tokyo really die???
  • Good riddance Gandía
  • Montage of the survivors – ugh. My heart.
  • Who will narrate Part 5 Volume 2?

Quotes from Part 5 Episode 5:  Live Many Lives La Casa de Papel (Money Heist):

“That woman is a survivor.” – Berlin or Andrés de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso)

“She was hanging from the ceiling like Spider-Man. Who does that? Instead of leaving those cops tied up in the parking lot, she took them into the patrol car and got past the entire blockade with the sirens on. She got away like a queen, riding on the back of the police. Is it or is it not art?” – Berlin

Berlin: Look, Sergio, I just got out of prison and I can assure you that there only numbskulls in there. People with virtually no brain waves. With no talent at all.what we just saw is unique. You don’t find that easily.

The Professor: Maybe. Maybe she’s talented. She is talented. But that girl is too dangerous.

Berlin: Exactly right, that’s why. Even more, she’s got nothing to lose. That’s exactly what we need.

The Professor: In 72 hours, if the police don’t find her, we’ll start looking for her.

Silene Oliveira. That was my name when this story began. Back when I was convinced I could outrun the pain and the police. Run, close your eyes, and endure. But eventually, there comes a moment when you stop. And all that pain washes over you. And you feel like there’s nothing you can do to make it disappear. I spent ten days hiding, replaying in my head each and every moment I’d shared with René. Remembering how he always said he didn’t want to hit a bank. And that we decided to do the job anyway. And just like that … my pain grew stronger. And so did the grief. For leaving him on his own. Lying on that cold street, soaking wet. Of course, he couldn’t even feel it. I knew I had to run faster than ever before. So the grief couldn’t catch me. And I didn’t stop. Not even when I got to that dead end, with an army at our back, hell-bent on killing us. At this point in my life, I was never gonna drop my gun and make it easy for them.” – Tokyo or Silene Oliveira (Úrsula Corberó)

“That’s what I want. Our freedom. Why should we have to settle for less? If we don’t steal, our lives are stolen from us.” – Tokyo

“The first time I chose Tokyo, it was to travel with René to the farthest city I could think of. I was the happiest I’d ever been exploring our love in new cities. The second time I picked Tokyo was to change my life.” – Tokyo

“They have a good shooting angle and a good aim.” – Sagasta (José Manuel Seda)

“You disobey me again and I’ll put you on your knees and shoot you in the head.” – Sagasta (José Manuel Seda)

“I know you. I mean, I know who you are. I know what you like. I know your dreams.” – Manila or Julia (Belén Cuesta)

“When I get up in the morning and I look beside me and see Stockholm, the sun coming through our window, my life is like a fucking commercial.” – Denver or Daniel or Ricardo Ramos (Jaime Lorente)

“It’s a life, but it’s still his life, too. We all have multitudes.” – Tokyo

Tokyo: People who try to steal 2.4 billion euros usually end up getting shot in the face. So stop saying that you can.

The Professor: You get shot when you don’t think. When you go into a bank barefaced and you do the first thing that comes to mind. But this heist has been in the making for a long time.

Tokyo: Yeah, how long then?

The Professor: Twenty years. I’m offering you your freedom.

Tokyo: I’m already free. I can leave through that door right now and disappear.

The Professor: So go then. You’re not going to leave because you have nothing or no one waiting for you out there. You don’t do it because your life ended in your last robbery. I’m offering you resurrection. A second life. Although, if you want, you can continue to obsess over the memories of the first one.

Tokyo: What do you think you know about my life? Or about what I’ve done to get freedom?

The Professor: I’ll learn the only think I need to know about you right now: whether you’re brave enough to be born again. To live again. To find another love. A family. It’s a “yes” or a “no”, and today’s the day. So, don’t you think he would want you to be happy again?

Tokyo: Who are you?

The Professor: Welcome to the game.

“A lot of people believe we only find one true love in our lives. But what they don’t realize is you can have several lives.” – Tokyo

“Congratulations. A baby always brings joy. And there hasn’t been much joy around here lately.” – Lisbon or Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño)

“I’m gonna name her Victoria. Because this girl is gonna be victorious. She will. And I’ll be there by her side.” – Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri)

“The day I killed Gandía, all the odds were against me. Like a marionette held together with bullets. And those five bullet wounds, reminded me of my samurai.” – Tokyo

“I can shoot until my fucking arms fall off.” – Tokyo

“Rio. Don’t be so sad. Something ends today. But now is the first day of your next life. You’ve gotta live a lot of lives, my love. So many. Now, get going because it’s party time.” – Tokyo

“It’s gonna be tough, Professor. Can you go on without me? You’ve always been my guardian angel. Now it’s my turn to be yours.” – Tokyo

“Growing old in a prison cell isn’t for me. I’d rather be on the run. And if I can’t run with my body, at least let my soul be free.” – Tokyo

“Get back!” – César Gandía (José Manuel Poga)
