Gunung Mas is a government-run tea plantation located in the southern part of Jakarta. This 2500-hectare paradise is a five-hour drive away from the city center, but the picturesque view is worth the long ride. Gunung Mas is a sea of green with the majestic mountains as its backdrop. At 1400 meters above sea level, the weather is cool even when the sun is at its zenith. This must be what God intended nature to be-verdant plants and fresh air.

There was something for everybody: pony rides and soap bubbles for the children and relaxing walk through the rows of tea plants and a cup of tea or two for the adults.
Gunung Mas visitors ride a pony or a motorbike to cover more area in a shorter period.
Some visitors rent a pony to take them around a certain area of the plantation. One round is IDR 30,000 (US $2.31).
Our companion rented a pony and this was her after almost half an hour around the rows of tea plants.
I thought that the horse was beautiful, with his albino skin and pink hair. I called him Albino.
Albinoβs owner said that I could ride him in place for free. So I did. π
The cutest Indonesian teenager joined Albino and I.
The skies started to darken and we had just entered the car before nature sprinkled the tea plantation with water. We proceeded to the Tea Gallery to look at the merchandise for sale.

The trip to Gunung Mas was one of the longest but invigorating we had in Indonesia. It started at 630am and ended at 9pm, but seeing the green landscape in contrast to the blue skies (for the most part, before it rained) was a reminder that an escape from the city center was much needed at that time.
Thank you Nadya and Ricky for driving us to and from Gunung Mas, for patiently explaining things to us and for taking us to a diverse set of restaurants. π

Astonishing!!! Were you allowed to get some of the leaves? :p and mabango ba?
Hi, Juvs. I am not sure if one is allowed to get leaves off the tree, but we did not get any. It smelled of fresh air but the leaves themselves did not give off any noticeable smell. π
