Buffet 101 – Glorietta 2: Desserts Edition

This weekend, Che celebrated her birthday at Buffet 101 - Glorietta 2. I remember that Las Brujas started the buffet birthday celebrations on this same location two years ago. After a handful of weekend breakfast and lunch buffets with my Spanish classmates, I felt that being in Buffet 101 was a full circle moment.

I will write about the rest of the food I saw and ate that day, but for now, the foci are the saccharine desserts. Despite the absence of the chocolate fountain (what happened to it?), these sugary treats are the superstars of that day (my friends are excluded).

*Here are some of the photos of desserts served by Buffet 101 Glorietta:

Buffet 101 dessert table. This caught my attention right away and I got two plates of pastries while others were busy with soup and appetizers.
Some of the pastries on the tables were banoffee, Japanese cheesecakes, pandan roll cakes, macaroons, mango bars, and brownies
Japanese cheesecakes. They were airy and not cloyingly sweet. Eating them was like eating a delectable pillow.
Mango cake. I made the mistake of getting two slices of this baked goody. The fresh mango slices were perfectly ripe and succulent but the rest of the cake made me dizzy.
Cassava cake and pichi-pichi. I did not taste them because a slice of kakanin is equivalent to one cup of rice (in my non-scientific and illogical) opinion, so I try to avoid them when I partake in an eating marathon.
Maja blanca and biko. I did not taste these either but my friends gave rave reviews of the maja blanca.
Where the chocolate fountain used to stand was this mini-tower of marshmallows.
Candies that were neither fun nor tempting for me

Another shelf of prepared afters
My first plate of desserts. Counterclockwise from the top: Japanese cheesecake, coconut marshmallow, mango bar, and banoffee. As mentioned, the Japanese cheesecake was light as air and it tasted like a dream. The coconut marshmallow tasted the way it looked – powdery and insipid. I tried it because I have not had coconut marshmallows before. This somewhat turned me off from coconuts. The mango bar was tiny but carried a huge sweet punch. It was sticky and sweet. The banoffee looked pretty but failed the taste test. I have had better banoffees.
Mango cake. The only good thing about this was the mango slices. The icing was too much and the bread itself was dry.
Blueberry crepe. The filling was too artificial that I gave up after one bite.
Pandan salad. I usually like pandan but this one was too watered-down and savourless.
Vanilla, strawberry, ube, and mango ice cream. The ube and mango scoops were passable.
Buffet 101 desserts

The desserts were underwhelming and the worst among my three visits to Buffet 101 branches. They used to serve more diverse and better pastries. What happened?
