Buffet 101 – Glorietta 2

Buffet 101 offers Asian and European cuisines, with a diverse spread of desserts which includes a table dedicated to halo-halo ingredients and pasta and fruit shakes prepared as the customer requests them.

Buffet 101 in Glorietta is right smack in the heart of Makati City, which makes in accessible to mall-going public. One can eat lunch at Buffet 101, get his fill and talk for four hours to catch up with family and friends, then step out of Buffet 101 and go shopping in the myriad of stores in Glorietta Complex afterwards.

Just after the climax of holiday rush in Metro Manila last year, after Christmas and before New Year’s Eve, Che treated her two favorite Spanish classmates J to lunch at Buffet 101. Unlike in our Vikings lunch, I arrived on time and enjoyed the food and good company an hour longer.

This paper was our placemat for the day.

There were long tables of food, divided according to their region of origin. One of them is this table.

There were smaller arrangements of food at either end of the long tables. One of them had mantho, fried dumpling, fried wanton, and radish cake. I told myself I will taste the fried dumpling and wanton after I had rice in my system, but I forgot to do so.

I had the yang chow fried rice (right) as part of my first (of six) plates. It was a little bland for my taste, and I was hungry at that time. It must have been tasteless if I was not hungry.

I paired my yang chow fried rice with these two dishes. I like anything covered in batter and fried. The spicy squid and shrimps were better than the rice, at least they had flavor.

On the other side of the room, the paella and creamy seafood were the center of attraction of another long table of food. The paella did not have as many ingredients as one would expect in a normal paella. It did not taste like one either. I like the creamy seafood though. The shrimp, squid and green mussel were succulent.

My favorite part of any meal is the dessert. I tasted 80% of the food from this table. I like the cake (white) and the brownie the most. The brownie is on the fudgy side. The revel bar was okay. The cookies were hard, dry and tasteless.

On the left side of this table is this chocolate fountain, perfect for mashmallows and slices of fruits.

Facing the chocolate fountain is a shelf of mini-cakes and jelly-based desserts. I had four mini-cakes and they were good.

Aside from the prepared desserts, Buffet 101 Glorietta had fresh fruits.

And more fresh fruits. They make fruit shakes (watermelon shake was refreshing and was not too sweet).

They also had make-your-own-halo-halo-table. Beside this is a freezer full of ice cream. I was too full by this time, I did not have any desire for ice cream.

A tower of kakanin (Filipino cakes). From top to bottom: maja, biko and cassava cake. As a rule, I do not eat kakanin at buffet because they are heavy, it is like eating another cup of rice.

There were meat (pork roast, lamb, etc), but I did not take photos of them. The pork roast was a little dry and their pasta with marinara sauce was insipid.

    1. Hi, Hyo Jung Kang! I am not, in any way, connected to Buffet 101. It will be prudent to contact the management of Buffet 101 directly.
      Thank you.
