Who is your #APEChottie?

Philippines hosts APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) 2015, and several world leaders have graced Metro Manila with their presence. This means high security measures and heavy volume of traffic due to road closures. But we are Filipinos, we always look on the bright side of life. The problem with the traffic jam has been alleviated by the presence of two powerful handsome men – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. PM Justin Tudeau and Pres. Enrique Peña Nieto are now tagged as the #APEChottie.

I am not sure who is winning the poll as the APEC 2015 Hottest Leader, but I bet majority of Filipinas are now envious of Kris Aquino, the presidential sister and Queen of All Media, for having welcomed the leaders and rubbing elbows with them. Maybe we should just give new meaning to APEC – Association of Pogi en Cuties. Yes, I know. I also rolled my eyes when I wrote it.

After a grand total of 20 seconds of consideration, I made my own list of #APEChottie. The world leaders appear according to the alphabetical order of the countries they represent.

#APEChottie Number 1: Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is the 29th Prime Minister of his country and the leader of Liberal Party. He has Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from University of Sydney. He worked as a journalist, lawyer, investment banker and venture capitalist before he entered politics. He was sworn in as Australia’s PM just recently, on September 15, 2015.

Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull is looks like a dashing gentleman and he makes wearing eyeglasses look so much cooler.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is the 23rd prime minister of his country. He capitalized on his movie star looks when he tried his hand at acting in Canada. He was part of a miniseries called The Great War. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is more than a pretty face; he has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from McGill University and BEd from University of British Columbia. He used his education when he worked as a teacher. And there’s more, PM Trudeau has a golden heart who supports political and environmental causes that he believes in. On March 31, 2012, he participated in and won a charity boxing match that benefitted the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. If his good looks, brilliant brain and pure heart are not cool enough, he might be the only world leader who has a tattoo. PM Trudeau has a tattoo on his left arm of a large Earth inside a Haida raven.

President Enrique Peña Nieto is on his third year of his six-year term as Mexico’s 57th president. Even at an early age, he has been known as a sharp dresser, with his mom squeezing lemon juice on his well-groomed and shiny locks which remain well-groomed and shiny to this day. He fortified his pretty boy looks with a diploma from the Universidad Panamericana where he finished Bachelor of Arts degree in Law. Afterwards, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Business Administration.

Among the #APEChotties, Pres. Peña Nieto is considered a pabling. He had children with other women while he was married to his first wife, Mónica Pretelini. However, it is undeniable that Pres. Peña Nieto’s genes are as beautiful as his lustrous hair because all of his children are gorgeous!

He is also the most controversial, given the problems he has back in Mexico, drug cartel, corruption of his party and Iguala kidnapping of 43 students, among other things. It can be deduced that Pres. Peña Nieto’s life is like a Mexican telenovela.

US President Barack Obama is the 44th and the first African-American president of the United States. Obama graduated from University of Columbia and Harvard Law School. He was a community organizer, a civil rights attorney, a law professor and a senator before he became the president of the most powerful nation in the world.

Pres. Obama was the reason why I learned so much about campaign and election proceedings in the US. In 2008, I watched majority of his campaigns on CNN, BBC, Fox News and Al-Jazeera, and I waited with bated breath for the announcement of the results of the Democratic Party primaries and of the general elections.

I have to add that the Obama family has the coolest pets in Bo (The First Dog of the United States) and Sunny, Bo’s younger sister. Bo and Sunny are Portuguese Water Dogs.
