Saturday Night at Raffles Makati

Wearing a Wednesday Addams uniform as cocktail dress, I made my way to Ballroom 2 of Raffles Makati on Saturday to attend the thanksgiving party of a dear person.

It was a grand yet cozy event. Twinkling lights adorned the entrance of the ballroom and the interior of the space was bedecked in violet pink colors that were present in the floral arrangement and adornments that dropped down from the ceiling. The almost six-hour event had cocktails, sketching, fun and exciting games, touching speeches, great food, and singing and dancing (I like the choice of songs).

Thank you, dear person, for the invite. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Since my phone does not work well in low light, photos of the ballroom do not do it justice. Instead of posting mediocre photos of a lovely space, I will post photos of the food we consumed that night (close photos are decent enough for posting).

Appetizer: Beef tenderloin carpaccio with pine nuts, capers, arugula, and Parmesan cheese, lemon aioli and balsamic syrup. The best parts of this dish were the pine nuts and Parmesan cheese. I could eat a mixed bag of these two.
Soup: Smoked tomato soup with basil and cheddar cheese soufflé. The smoky element in the soup was very evident and it added complexity to it. The addition of the cheese soufflé elevated the soup to a whole new level of yum. I rarely eat cheese but I delighted in feasting on the first two courses.
Middle Course: Honey roasted duck breast with duck leg confit, wild mushrooms, orange – port jus and foie gras fried rice. Amazing dish! I marveled at the taste of the rice.

Main Course: Baked lobster thermidor with brown butter hollandaise, creamy mushrooms in pernod and truffled potato. Oh, goodness. This was a crackerjack! Every morsel on this plate was divine.
Dessert: Flourless chocolate almond cake and caramelized orange sauce. The cake was good but the caramelized orange sauce was the bomb.
In my almost-all-black outfit (my necklace and watch were silver and my shoes and nails were red) to celebrate, “on Saturdays, we wear black”. Haha.
