Christmas 2016 – Starless Parol Edition

A short stretch of road in Barangay Valencia, Quezon City is home to several parol (Christmas lantern) sellers. A couple of stores are open all year round to sell their Capiz shell-based parol while others join the frenzy when the ber months start on September 1.

In a previous entry, I posted the five-star parol inspired lanterns. They are gorgeous unlit but they are fantastic when they display a repertoire of dizzying bright lights. To look at their photos, please read this.

This entry is about the other Christmas decors that share the limelight with the parol in the stores that sell holiday cheer at the right price.

The story (based the captions of the photos) that follows is 100% baseless and exists only in my mind.

The road from another angle

Santa Claus and his reindeer work hard to reach the Philippines from the North Pole in time for Christmas. ☺

One of the reindeer got lost along the way. Thankfully, the lights all over its body will make sure Santa Claus will find it immediately.

And what do you know, Santa Claus found where the stranded reindeer was and sent a helicopter to pick it up.

Santa Claus and his reindeer are back on track to visit Jesus in this life-sized belen.

Santa Claus will also visit baby Jesus in this belen.

And in this belen.

And in this diminutive belen

In order to pay respect to Mary and her child and to gaze at the couple

Angels practice how to sound their trumpets to celebrate Santa Claus’s visit to baby Jesus.

These cute angels with Capiz shell head follow suit.

The bells will also toll unison with the shining of the star.

And Santa Claus and the reindeer will head to the Philippines and take their much-needed break in Coron, Palawan where they will sunbathe under the shade of coconut trees.

Based on my conversations with the sellers and owners, prices of parol range from P1,700 (US $37.23) to P5,500 (US $120.46).
