Caffe Sant’Antonio (Silang, Cavite) – Revisited

Caffe Sant’Antonio, your coffee and tea haven, in Silang, Cavite, is named after Saint Anthony of Padua. It is managed by the congregation of the Rogationist of the Heart of Jesus.

Caffe Sant’Antonio serves authentic Italian pizza and pasta and mouthwatering desserts. The place is hard to miss. It is located almost in the boundary of Silang and Tagaytay City. Its signages stand tall beside Aguinaldo Highway and its façade has retained its vibrancy over the years.

I visited Caffe Sant’Antonio in 2015. Although I passed by the area a couple of times, I had no time to stop and smell the freshly-baked pizza from its wood fired brick oven. However, TR and I dropped by at Caffe Sant’Antonio (and missed Alvin Patrimonio) by a couple of days to buy gifts for a special person.

Recently, Caffe Sant’Antonio flexed its culinary muscles and opened an al fresco area to the public. With this change, the La Bocca Della Verita replica, which was situated next to La Pizzeria, is now next to the coffee shop. It has a roof over its head and is flanked by tables and chairs where diners can eat and know the degree of their truthfulness at the same time. Aside from this, two picturesque sceneries are painted on the walls to add to the Italian ambiance.

La Bocca Della Verita (The Mouth of Truth) is an image, carved from Pavonazzo marble, of a man-life face, located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome, Italy. The sculpture is thought to be part of a first-century ancient Roman fountain, or perhaps a manhole cover, portraying one of several pagan gods, probably Oceanus. Most Romans believe that the “bocca” represents the ancient god of the river Tiber. The most famous characteristic of the mouth, however, is its role as a lie detector. Starting from the Middle Ages, it was believed that if one told a lie with one’s hand in the mouth of the sculpture, it would be bitten off. – From the paper beside the replica of La Bocca Della Verita

TR placed her hand inside La Bocca Della and said that she is the cutest girl on the planet. She has both her limbs intact. I guess she told the truth.
