Café Shibuya – Glorietta 2

Having drinks and desserts with friends is a great way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon in Makati. After a lunch over pasta and catching up with each other’s lives, Che, Hope, and I did just that. It was also part of a belated birthday celebration for Che, who came all the way from the south. Happy Birthday, Che! 🙂

Café Shibuya in Glorietta 2 is situated in the middle of a crowded part of the mall near the escalators. Thankfully, there was no buzzing noise to assault the ears incessantly, so the three of us were able to talk and relax.

The three people who served us at Café Shibuya – Glorietta 2 were all very nice. They answered our questions politely, served the food promptly, and moved the fans near us to give us more cool air. For a person who sweats a lot, the last gesture is a big deal.

Here are some of the photos of what we ordered that day:

A slice of mango cheesecake, a smooth creamy favorite paired with sweet fresh mango topppings, P125.00 (US $2.50). The fresh mango looked yum!

Sans rival toast, a dessert that no other can beat. It has butter cream, cashew meringue, and pistachio ganache layered delicately over toast, finished with vanilla ice cream. Baby, P215.00 (US $4.30) and Regular, P275.00 (US $5.50). This one is a Baby Sans Rival.

Mango caramel toast, diced mangoes served on top of a crumbly graham cracker crust and vanilla cream sauce. It is served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce. Baby, P205.00 (US $4.10) and Regular, P260.00 (US $5.20). This one is a Baby Mango Caramel Toast. It is quite filling, and thank goodness, the mango fresh mangoes are sweet, but not cloyingly so. It added a new texture to the thick toast, and its sweetness was able to cut through all the bread beneath it. I do not like vanilla ice cream because it makes me dizzy, but this vanilla ice cream scoop was not so bad. I actually finished all of it. Although the cream on the side was a little overkill for me, the chopped nuts in it gave the whole dish its crunchy element.

Matcha Green Tea Latte. It has Kyoto Matcha green tea, steamed milk, and chocolate drizzle, P155.00 (US $3.10).

Triple Dark Ghirardelli Chocolate Frappe. It has Belgian dark chocolate, Ghirardelli cocoa, and sweetened cocoa powder, P165.00 (US $3.30). I should have enjoyed this drink because it has a lot of chocolate, but it was underwhelming. It did not have that rich chocolate flavor that one might expect from having a name of triple dark, and it was a little one-note.
