Buffet 101 (Makati City) Revisited

Buffet 101 – Glorietta’s desserts were featured on the previous post. This time, the international cuisines served by Buffet 101 – Glorietta are placed in the spotlight.

Buffet 101 offers Asian and European dishes, from the ones that are familiar to the ones that are rare to the Filipino palate. Japanese - sushi, sashimi, and tempura, among other things - and Chinese – dimsum and dumplings - cuisines have their own sections at the extreme areas of the restaurants. The middle is dominated by other Asian and European courses. There is a make-your-own pasta and salad table, a make-your-own halo-halo, a made-to-order crepe section, and meat station, which highlights lechon and roasted beef.

This is out of character for me to say that I enjoyed the appetizers and main dishes (yes, I did not taste the soup, which looked tempting and received rave reviews from my friends) more than the desserts. The former were well-seasoned, those that needed to be crisp were crunchy and those that needed to be tender were succulent, and the variety of dishes was more than enough to satisfy my craving for anything salty, sour, and savory.

People were streaming in fast and furious, and the queue in each station was long, but the demand for food was met with sufficient supply.

Aside from the desserts that needed improvement, I was pretty contented with my dining experience.

The following are photos taken at Buffet 101 – Glorietta 2:

Japanese food station: Tamago and apple warship, seaweed salad warship and corn warship

Pan de sal, wheat bread, and garlic bread
Salt and pepper stuffed tofu and roll
Soya chicken

Chinese food station: Scallion pancake
Fried mantho
Assorted fruits
Drinks: Black gulaman and buko pandan
My first plate of food: warships and maki. They were all satisfying and scrummy. I wanted another go at the maki, but I was too full.
My second plate of food: roll, pork dimsum, and salt and pepper stuffed tofu. They were all surprisingly scrumptious especially the tofu. The salt and pepper flavor were a little more pronounced that I would like, but they cured my cravings for something salty. Haha.
My third plate of food: Japanese cheesecake, coconut marshmallow, mango bar, and banoffee. As mentioned, the Japanese cheesecake was light as air and it tasted like a dream. The coconut marshmallow tasted the way it looked – powdery and insipid. I tried it because I have not had coconut marshmallows before. This somewhat turned me off from coconuts. The mango bar was tiny but carried a huge sweet punch. It was sticky and sweet. The banoffee looked pretty but failed the taste test. I have had better banoffees.
My fourth plate of food: mango cake. I love mangoes, so I got two slices of this pastry. It was the worst decision I made that meal. The only good thing about this was the mango slices. The icing was too much and the bread itself was dry.
My fifth plate of food: two slices of beef roast, three slices of franks (?), and Sri Lankan spicy sausage. The best thing on this plate is the last one on the list. Yum.
My sixth plate of food: assorted fruits because I wanted to feel healthful. Hahaha.
My seventh plate (I know it is not a plate) of food: four scoops of ice cream - vanilla, strawberry, ube, and mango ice cream. The ube and mango scoops were passable. I had blueberry crepe and another plate of dessert, but let us pretend I did not have those.
Baked mussels for sharing. I did not try this because the cheese scared me.
Lechon and roasted beef for sharing. The lechon was not up to par.
My friend’s first plate. That cream of corn soup looked so creamy
