Zark’s Burger (Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City)

This is a late post.

It was the day after Christmas when I looked for a new refrigerator to replace the 19-year old one that I had at home. I visited four stores in three locations to find a refrigerator that I liked in terms of specifications, price, and look.

With the purchase of the refrigerator and some food items out of the way, my brother, his friend, and I had a late lunch at Zark’s Burger in Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City. I remember having one of their bacon wrapped burgers years ago in their La Salle Taft branch and I also remember that I did not finish it. Far from it. But I had a fun time with my classmates in Spanish in their jampacked place.

The December 2020 visit to Zark’s Burger in Cubao was an entirely different thing. Following health protocols, the place was only at 50% capacity and we had to seat alternately. With limited staff and multiple take-out orders on top of the dine-in ones, the waiting time to get the food was around half an hour (but the staff was super nice about it).

We had one order of Holideal, it had one Zark’s Ultimate, one Powerbomb, a serving of buffalo wings with rice, and three iced tea for P599.00 (US $12.35). I was starving by the time our food arrived. I chose to have the buffalo wings with rice but requested to have a tiny slice of the burgers (following sanitary precautions).

Zark’s Ultimate has perfectly cooked burger patty, bacon, lettuce,  caramelized onions (yum!), mushrooms, slice of cheese, and melted cheese that oozes out bookended by two buns. My tiny bite was a great bite because it had a little of everything. The lettuce remained crisp and the cheese sauce was something I did not know I needed until I had a bite of it.

Zark’s Powerbomb has candied bacon, lettuce, tomato, fried onion strings, and cheese sauce with black sesame brioche buns. It was supposed to have jalapeños but they ran out of it. It was still the bomb. My favorite was the fried onion strings. I bought another one to-go because I liked it so much.

Zark’s buffalo wings with rice come with three wings, spicy sauce, and a dip. I polished it off in record time.

The iced tea was good but not good enough to topple Wendy’s or BonChon’s.
