WildFlour Restaurant (BGC, Taguig City)

Wildflour Restaurant in BGC, Taguig City is like the older sibling of other Wildflour Café + Bakery branches. Wildflour Restaurant has all the greatest hits of the Wildflour Café + Bakery but offers wine collection and dinner menu after 5pm.

Wildflour Restaurant in BGC is the flagship restaurant of Wildflour Bakery + Café Corp., a world-class restaurant business established in Manila in 2012. It is not surprising that it is the one chosen to have the dinner service.

Wildflour Restaurant, like Wildflour Café + Bakery in Salcedo Village, was packed on the Sunday morning we visited. Filipinos and foreigners milled around the area and partook in the hearty meals that were put on their tables.

I was with two lady friends that morning.  We had an 845am reservation and we planned to stay for a couple of hours tops for brunch. However, like most of our meals together, this one also stretched to over four hours.

We shared the latest about our lives, what we know about novel corona virus (but no one wore a mask inside the restaurant), business, politics, sports, and entertainment (yes, we usually discuss the whole gamut of topics normally found in broadsheets), we eagerly consumed our delicious sustenance for that part of the day.

I had a cup of hazelnut chocolate, 70% of fried chicken and waffles, part of a soufflé pancake, part of a brownie, half of chocolate filled doughnut, and part of what was supposedly a fiancier cake. Towards the end of our meal, we had sweet potato fries, three brownies each (to go), and a whole salted chocolate cake (to go). Everything was scrumptious.

The cup of hazelnut chocolate was wonderful although it was not as decadent and as memorable as the hot chocolate drink in High Street Café at Shangri-la at The Fort. I wish it was a little richer and creamier.

The friend chicken and waffles had the best chicken I have eaten in a while. It was so light yet filling. I did not use the sauce that came with the dish, but I do not regret it. The chicken did not have a very strong flavor but it was tasty. The scrambled eggs were delightfully airy and it was floating in my mouth as I ate it (not literally, of course). The waffles was actually just one giant waffle but it was so so so good. I would order this dish again in a heartbeat.

I chose the soufflé pancake because I had an idea that it would be as fluffy as Japanese pancakes. I was told to wait half an hour for them to prepare it. It was worth the wait because it arrived in a skillet and was as gorgeous as a Miss Universe titleholder. I did not pour the maple syrup that came with it because I chose to let the butter melt on top of the pancake (I do not eat pancakes with both butter and maple syrup, I know it is a little weird. I just cannot fathom digesting both of them at the same time). The soufflé pancake was not as airy as I thought it would be, but it felt and tasted as good as it looked. There were tiny slices of mangoes and bananas at the bottom of the pancake. The banana slices were sweet but the mango slices had a sour note to them. Overall, it was still a winning dish.

I had a quarter of one brownie. It was the best brownie I have tasted in years! The top was flaky and the middle was unimaginably fudgy but not sweet! If I could marry a dessert, this would have been my groom. But I think, TR would want to marry it first. The financier gave my taste buds a little respite from the richness of the brownie. It was delicate and a little on the bland side compared to the brownie. But it was the appropriate middle dessert between the brownie and hazelnut bomboloni. The chocolate-filled doughnut was like a ball with nutella inside it. When we halved it, gooey chocolate slowly emerged from the center. I thought I died and went to dessert heaven. It was yum!

I had three pieces of sweet potato fries because my stomach was 150% full. I popped the first fry in my mouth without dipping it in the sauce. It was an elevated sweet potato fry because of the seasoning that coated it. It was wonderful. I tried the sauce with my second piece of fry. It was a little spicy and I thought it did not complement the sweet potato. So I had my last fry “naked”.

I shared the salted chocolate cake with my officemates and they said it was perfect with coffee. I do not drink coffee, so I had it with water. It is still as rich as a true classic cake. The chocolate frosting is delectable and it is how I imagine all chocolate frostings should be.
