The first time I heard that I would be staying at Mallberry Suites Business Hotel, I asked, “what? Mulberry?” and the person who made the reservation corrected me and said, “Mallberry”. Without seeing how it was spelled, in the twisted part of my brain, I still insisted, “Mulberry” all the while I travelled from Iligan City to Cagayan de Oro City.
I remembered that day started so early and we went to several places (two bodies of water, a factory, a military checkpoint, lunch, then another factory) before we made the trip to Cagayan de Oro. By the time I entered my room at Mallberry Suites (which was really Mallberry, of course), at around 6pm, I was dead on my feet and so ready to drop. I was ready to crawl my way to bed and call it a day. Then, I remembered that I had dinner at 8pm. The only thing that kept me going was the bathtub. 🙂 It was like a beacon in a night so dark and full of terror that it gave me hope that I would make it through dinner with a smile on my face and wit in my partly twisted brain. So, I exaggerated, but soaking my dirty and tired limbs in that bathtub was just delicious – like a humungous chocolate cake in the middle of a caramel sauce lake, drizzled with more salted caramel sauce on top because why not?
After a relaxing soak and a rather quick shower, I went down to the lobby, with the non-twisted part of my brain functioning again, and noticed that there were several restaurants in the Mallberry Suites premises. It was just a bonus that Mallberry Suites is just a stone’s throw away from Robinsons Mall.
Unlike the quietude in Limketkai Luxe Hotel, there is a certain exuberant presence in Mallberry Suites, from the bright lights in the lobby to the multitude of people that occupy the ever-busy elevators. The food in Café Laguna and Tangerine Room is nothing to be frowned upon (I had the pancakes in Tangerine Room in two separate occasions and its dessert bars once, and they were both worth the calories. The fruit platters were also plentiful and the fruits were sweet (unlike the other ripe yet tasteless fruits in most hotels I have stayed at)).
