Katherine’s Café in Glorietta 3, Makati City is a breath of fresh air, a pop of brightness and color, within the confines of a mall.
The new version of Las Brujas went to Katherine’s Café for dessert after a hearty lunch at Manam – Greenbelt 2. It was not our first choice for sweet endings but our feet brought us in the area and our eyes were enticed by the attractiveness of the café interior. It is mostly in blue and white with bright lights flooding the dining area. In one corner, there is an immovable wooden swing with ropes on both sides and flowers in the background. Each table has a vase with simple floral arrangement. It looked so feminine that TR must have had a giggling episode upon seeing the photos.
Katherine’s Café serves delicious meals cooked by the owner’s Nana. It includes soups, salads, starters, pot pies, all day breakfast, Filipino favorites, pork, beef, chicken, and seafood entrees, pastas, flat breads, sandwiches and burgers, kid’s favorites, cakes, breads, and pastries, shakes, and beverages.
This post will focus on cakes, breads, pastries, and beverages.
I had Mango Bang-o Crunch Cake because I love mangoes and it was pronounced by Philippine Daily Inquirer Lifestyle section as one of five best desserts. The Mango Bang-o has layers of white chocolate, wafer, and mango mousseline. The mango was ripe and sweet but it was on the frozen side that it was hard to enjoy the cake. The frozen state made it taste a little dull than it would when it was a little thawed. However, the layers of ingredients were delightful.
Che had Old Fashioned Sansrival. It had baked meringue, toasted cashew nuts, and vanilla butter cream. We were shocked at the size of the sansrival! It was twice as big as other sansrival I have seen. The baked meringue was fluffy and the toasted cashew nuts made it a little crunchy. It was a great contrast to the softness of meringue and vanilla butter cream. It was voted the hands down winner among the cakes we had.
Juvy had Ube White Chocolate Cake. It had white chocolate crunch, white chocolate mousse, ube jam, ube chiffon, and ube glaze. Given that it had three out of five ingredients with ube in their names, I could barely taste the ube. It was a letdown because ube is emerging to be one of my new favorite flavors (mostly because of Caramia Gelateria’s Ube Cake).
Katherine’s Café offered decent cakes (based on a small sample) but its staff was super attentive. I would return to taste its savory meals, and maybe another slice of its cakes.
