Hotel Monterey Osaka (Osaka, Japan)

Hotel Monterey Osaka is a part of the Hotel Monterey Group. Hotel Monterey Group operates hotels in various major cities in Japan like Tokyo, Nagasaki, Sapporo, Okinawa, and Osaka, among others.

Hotel Monterey Group started in 1986, with the vision to develop hotels with distinct characteristics. It aims to “re-create the history and charm of various cities from around the world”. True to this nature, Hotel Monterey Osaka is a charming re-creation of Schönbrunn Palace (Beautiful Spring Palace) of Austria. From the old-world-like elevator to the yellows and reds that dominate the walls of the lobby and the interior of the rooms (at least in our case), Hotel Monterey Osaka gives guests a romantic and luxurious experience.

Virg and I stayed at Hotel Monterey Osaka in a room good for three people for two nights. We arrived in Osaka from Tokyo early in the morning, way before the 3pm check-in. We requested the front desk on the 8th floor to safeguard our belongings as we traipse all over Osaka. They did so graciously.

Since we could not use the room that morning we arrived, we freshened up in one of their common restrooms off the patio on the 8th floor. I was happy to find out that it has a space devoted to lactating mothers and their babies.

After we felt half-humans again, we took a stroll in the patio. Although it is located on the 8th floor, it had abundant natural light and one could smell the early morning relatively fresh air of Osaka. There were tables and chairs that dotted the patio and colorful flowers and green plants to accompany them. At night, it looked picturesque.

The focal point of the patio is a replica of Chapel Goedele. Chapel Goedele is a 14th century church that still stands today in Bruges, Belgium. It has high vaulted ceiling and stained glass windows. It has a marker in what I assume is Austrian.

After almost 12 hours of wandering around Osaka, we finally entered our room. It had an ante-room with a shelf. We placed our footwear in this area so as not to bring dirt into the main room. The main room was spacious and cold. Hahaha. The beds looked inviting. The pajamas on top of the beds were felt soft and comfortable and made me feel like I was two seconds away from snoozing. Hotel Monterey has a partnership with Japanese apparel manufacturer Gunze to make 100% cotton pajamas for their guests. It is to ensure that each guest will have a relaxing and comfortable sleep.

Beside one of the beds was an air purifier with humidifier function and plasma cluster. There were two bedside tables and a chest of drawers and a mini-refrigerator. On top of the chest was a tv set, which I could not remember if we used it.

The room has three windows, two of which we opened for the briefest of times to see what was outside. One had a view of another building and the other had the view of the park adjacent to the hotel.

Each room had hairdryer (one of my favorites!), slippers, writing desk, letter set (we left ours untouched in the room), laundry bag (I did not even see this!), kettle, complimentary internet, telephone, wardrove (coat hangers, shoe shine, and shoe horn), toilet with bidet, hand towels, face towels, bath towels, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, bath sponge, razor, face soap, toothbrush set, comb, cotton wool and cotton buds, and shower cap.

Aside from these items, they have items for loan or rent. It includes cot for baby, nail clippers, iron, trouser press, cutlery, ice pack (gel), thermometer, sewing kit, desk lamp, corkscrew, bottle opener, mobile phone charger, blanket, plastic umbrella, and wheelchair.

In our short stay at Hotel Monterey Osaka, which we spent mostly sleeping (we left early in the morning for trips), I enjoyed the bathroom the most. Hahaha. It was spacious and the toilet bowl did not make a lot of sound. The bed was divine and I think I snored. It was a glorious 48 hours.

A major plus point for Hotel Monterey Osaka is its proximity to JR Osaka Station and Umeda Subway Station. It is convenient to take the train in any direction and to shop ‘til you drop at Daimaru Umeda. We had to walk five minutes from the hotel to Daimaru Umeda and a couple more minutes to go to JR Osaka Station.

They offer buffet breakfast but we did not avail of it because we had to leave early in the morning on our first morning and we had to pack on our second morning.
