#QuaranTreats: Auro Chocolate – The Chocoholic’s Kit

Auro Chocolate is an award winning, proudly Filipino bean-to-bar company that sustainably produces fine cacao and chocolate made from directly sourced beans from Mindanao farming communities. In order to improve the standards of chocolate production in the Philippines, Auro invested in a 2,000-m2 modern factory equipped with the latest technologies. The factory is specially designed for learning and collaboration so that everyone can appreciate the bean-to-bar chocolate making process.

Since its launch in May 2017, Auro Chocolate has experienced enormous growth not only domestically but also internationally. It has done collaborations with Philippine Airline, Shangri-la Mactan, Shake Shack Philippines, and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Auro Chocolate has been globally recognized and received numerous accolades from prestigious award-giving bodies like Academy of Chocolate, Great Taste Award, and International Chocolate Awards.

I first encountered Auro Chocolate in early 2018, sitting in one of the tables near the entrance of Casa Roces. I was instantly smitten with the quality of chocolate and the complementary products that are mixed in in every Auro Chocolate bar.

Just recently, Jun ordered a box of Auro Chocolate Chocoholic’s Kit. Auro Chocolate calls it #AuroQuaranTreats. 20% of the proceeds will be donated to Makati Medical Center, Philippine General Hospital, and Philippine Red Cross in the form of chocolate to support the efforts of dedicated frontliners.

The Auro Chocolate Chocoholic’s Kit arrived three days after confirmation of payment. The box that arrived looks like a laptop box – brown and humongous. The Chocoholic’s Kit has 11 boxes of eight varieties of chocolates. It has 1 piece 100 grams 42% Milk Chocolate with Cacao Nibs, 1 piece 60 grams 85% Dark Chocolate – Regalo Single Variety, 1 piece 60 grams 70% Dark Chocolate – Saloy Single-Estate, 1 piece 60 grams 32% White Chocolate – Moringa Pinipig, 1 piece 60 grams 32% White Chocolate – Mango Pili, 2 pieces 50 grams  64% Dark Chocolate, 2 pieces 27 grams 55% Dark Chocolate Arabica Coffee, and 2 boxes of 27 grams of 42% Milk Chocolate. The Chocoholic Kit costs P1,350.00 (US $27.10).

Lovely TR and Auro Chocolate Chocoholic’s Kit, P1,350.00 (US $27.10). It contains 1 piece 100 grams 42% Milk Chocolate with Cacao Nibs, 1 piece 60 grams 85% Dark Chocolate – Regalo Single Variety, 1 piece 60 grams 70% Dark Chocolate – Saloy Single-Estate, 1 piece 60 grams 32% White Chocolate – Moringa Pinipig, 1 piece 60 grams 32% White Chocolate – Mango Pili, 2 pieces 50 grams 64% Dark Chocolate, 2 pieces 27 grams 55% Dark Chocolate Arabica Coffee, and 2 boxes of 27 grams of 42% Milk Chocolate.
Auro Chocolate 42% Milk Chocolate with Cacao Nibs, 100 grams. This is the bar I like the most among the items I have tasted. The milk chocolate is smooth and creamy and the cacao nibs are roasted to perfection. There is symbiosis in this relationship because there is difference in texture and the nibs add a certain level of smokiness in the bar.
Auro Chocolate 85% Dark Chocolate – Regalo Single Variety, 60 grams. This one exceeds the level of chocolate that I normally enjoy. However, the four small pieces I have are silky and the muscovado sugar in it successfully lessens the impact of the intense dark chocolate.
Auro Chocolate 70% Dark Chocolate – Saloy Single-Estate, 60 grams. This has not been opened yet.
Auro Chocolate 32% White Chocolate – Moringa Pinipig, 60 grams. My friend does not like this and claims that it has too much moringa, but I think that the moringa flavor is not as detectable as the green color of the bar conveys. I rather find it delightful because of the toasted and crunchy pinipig. The contrast between the roughness of the pinipig and the smoothness of the while chocolate makes the bar sing a high tune!
Auro Chocolate 32% White Chocolate – Mango Pili, 60 grams. This is one of the highlights of the kit for my friend. He finds the dried mango and the roasted pili nuts combination to be lovely.
Auro Chocolate 64% Dark Chocolate, 50 grams.
Auro Chocolate 55% Dark Chocolate Arabica Coffee, 27 grams. Like the other bars, this one has smooth dark chocolate. The Arabica coffee from Benguet certainly elevates the flavor of this bar and cuts through the bitterness of the chocolate.
Auro Chocolate 42% Milk Chocolate, 27 grams. This is the most basic bar in the kit but it pulls its weight for having the same quality of cacao as the other bars.
