A Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante – Glorietta 3

A Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City was one of the better restaurants in the area when I was living there. I remember that my friends and I would go there for a weekend dinner and the place would be packed to the rafters. It was a little dark, smoky, hot and noisy for my taste, but they served decent pasta, and when one is hungry the taste of food always trumps ambiance.

I have moved out of that area more than two years ago, and I am sure a lot of things have changed. I have not been to any other branches of A Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante (Italian food is not my go-to cuisine) so, I was pleasantly surprised when Che decided to treat us for lunch at A Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante in Glorietta 3. I could vividly remember the texture of their carbonara pasta with chicken and of their huge meatball parmigiana that I could almost taste them in my mouth.

A Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante – Glorietta 3 was not pretentious by all means. It was small, with simple interior. It was very homey. Their two-page large menu was also uncomplicated. It actually warmed my heart that everything was so familiar. Yet it was not. It was not dark (obviously the time difference mattered), but the glass floor-to-ceiling windows that were lacking in the Visayas Avenue branch helped, it was neither smoky nor noisy. However, it was still hot, but it was more a personal preference than a problem. And I was wrong about the carbonara pasta with chicken. It did not taste as good as before. Sad. However, their nut-pesto with seafood was glorious!

A Veneto Family Platter, P385.00 (US $7.70). A Veneto Family Platter is a unique combination of their chicken wings together with crabsticks, cheddar munchers, and French fries, coupled with two dips. I loved everything on this plate. The chicken wings tasted great, the crabsticks were not anorexic and they did not taste artificial, and the fries were crisp and not so thin. I did not taste the cheddar munchers because when I am out, cheese is out, too. My stomach cannot process cheese and milk properly.

Carbonara Pasta with Chicken, P395.00 (US $7.90). This delicious carbonara pasta is cooked with bacon bits, mushrooms and onions, with a healthy serving of chicken breast under all the pasta. I used to order this dish in A Veneto Visayas Avenue, so I ordered it again for old time’s sake. Let me say that I was disappointed. It was bland, like whoever cooked it forgot to put something in it. It was hard to eat because it was dense and nothing cuts through all the cream on top of the pasta. The chicken was cooked well; it was tender and juicy but it had a weird flavor.

Nut-Pesto with Seafood, P355.00 (US $7.10). Nut-Pesto tossed with sautéed shrimp, squid and mussels. Ohemgheee, I am not a fan of pesto dishes but this dish might convert me into one. It was dripping with flavor; every bite was a beautiful medley of flavors in my mouth. The nut gives it the much needed crunch to cut through all the oiliness, and the seafood was all cooked to perfection. Lovelovelove.
