When I lived in the northern part of Quezon City, I would occasionally pass by Mother Ignacia Street and see the unassuming Pepeton’s Grill and Catering’s sign and wondered what temptations awaited its customers inside. That curiosity is now a thing of the past since I was finally invited to taste Pepeton’s Kapalmuks.
The day I went to Pepeton’s Grill and Catering, I had a once-in-a-blue-moon full schedule and that 530pm meal was my first. I do not know if it was the taste of food or the voracious monster inside my stomach, but I was Taz on steroids who created a vortex of emptiness right after the dishes arrived. After a fast and furious meal, I felt so much better and looked at the world through rose-colored glasses once again.
*Here are some of the photos I took from 5pm to 530pm, which I shall call BF: Before Food:
Pepeton’s Grill and Catering occupies a two-level edifice. The ground floor has an open air non-smoking area, an air-conditioned dining area, and function rooms.

Pepeton’s Grill and Catering’s Kapalmuks (thick face)
Pepeton’s Grill and Catering’s famous Kapalmuks, P649.00 (US $12.18). Kapalmuks is the house specialty. Your eyes are not fooling you. That is half the face of a pig. Let me say that the top was crisp and crackling but the fatty side was tender. It needed to be dipped in sauce to be perfect but on its own, it was already a winner.
Pepeton’s Rice, P199.00 (US $3.73). It is fried rice topped with the secret mix of Pepeton’s. To be honest, it did not taste anything special. Eating it was like eating plain white rice.
Sinigang. The soup was decent and the chunks of fish were not minuscule.
Roasted Vegetables with Olive Oil, P179.00 (US $3.36). This was the dish I like the most. The vegetables were fresh and were not sliced thinly. It had a lot of flavor and the char in the vegetables lent them added sweetness. I must have eaten a third of this dish. Yum!
Giant Sago’t Gulaman, P75.00 (US $1.41). When they say giant, it really is ginormous. This must have been closer to 700mL. Yes, that was 700mL of solid sugary stuff surrounded by a lake of more sugary stuff, because why not? In my defense, I did not finish the whole thing.
