Bánh Mì Kitchen

A couple of weeks ago, my brother, my brother from another mother, and I were in Mother Ignacia Avenue. We arrived early and hungry, so we decided to look for some chow in M Place. We circled one area twice before settling for some sandwiches at Bánh Mì Kitchen.

I was hesitant at first because I tasted more than enough coriander when I visited Ho Chi Minh City. That was where I discovered that I could not swallow the green leaves. Not in pho, not in spring rolls, and not in sandwiches. Not even in small dosage. Throughout my stay there, I had to separate the coriander from my food so I could eat in peace. Since then, I have not encountered coriander more than a dozen times.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, I thought it would be high time for me to get reacquainted with coriander and put some green sustenance in my bloodstream (Okay, I am exaggerating. I consume enough vegetables and I particularly enjoy eggplant, squash, string beans, carrots, corn, horseradish, and malungay). I took a small bite out of my lemongrass chicken bánh mì, chewed carefully, and then the coriander hit me. I almost gagged. So I thought it was wise to discontinue my reacquaintance with coriander and ate my bánh mì with incomplete ingredients. I enjoyed eating the rest of my bánh mì, and a scene from Ratatouille came to mind (it is a good scene! Rataouille is my favorite animated film).

I would like to commend the person who prepared our bánh mì because he was really nice.

*Here are some photos I took of that beautiful experience:

I like this newspaper-like packaging.

My brother ordered lemongrass pork bánh mì, P149.00 (US $2.77). It has Vietnamese BBQ pork, pate, cucumber, pickled radish and carrot, mayo, and hoisin sauce.

My brother from another mother had the classic bánh mì, P149.00 (US $2.77). It contains Vietnamese ham, roast pork, pate, cucumber, pickled radish and carrot, mayo, and hoisin sauce.

It looked mouth-watering!!!

My lemongrass chicken bánh mì, P149.00 (US $2.77). Its ingredients are Vietnamese BBQ chicken, pate, cucumber, pickled radish and carrot, mayo, and hoisin sauce. Of course, it has coriander. ☺

I just wish to make my thoughts clear. I liked eating the bánh mì, I just did not (I still do not) like the coriander. The baguette somewhat reminded me of that scene in Ratatouille where Colette showed Linguini how to determine if the bread was good or not without tasting it. The filling was tasty and the vegetables were crunchy and fresh.

*Exchange Rate: US $1.00 = P53.82
