Food - Bali

Balinese cuisine features meat and vegetables accompanied by various spices that titillate the palate. I love it more because of the abundance of rice served with the flavorful dishes.

Nasi Goreng Spesial (yes, with an “S”) is a complete meal. Under the kropek and the sunny side up egg are chicken and almost two cups of rice. IDR 18,000 (US $1.39) at Fajar Resto.

Nasi Goreng Seafood (with tuna and shrimp), IDR 19,000 (US $1.46) at Fajar Resto

Mie Goreng Ayam (fried noodle served with chicken and vegetable), IDR 15,000 (US $1.16) at Fajar Resto

Bihun Goreng Ayam (fried rice noodle with chicken and vegetables), IDR 15,000 (US $1.16) at Fajar Resto

Tamie a la Fajar (crispy fried noodle with chicken and mix vegetables), IDR 19,000 (US $1.46) at Fajar Resto

Sambal, dip with a lot of chili. I mixed this with Tamie a la Fajar because I thought it needed some kick. I got kicked in my behind because I had too much sambal.

Bihun Kuah (rice noodle soup with chicken and vegetable), IDR 16,000 (US $1.23) at Fajar Resto

Madu Sari fried rice. The satay tasted okay, but the chicken was undercooked. IDR 69,878 (US $5.39) at Madu Sari Mountain Restaurant

Spring Roll French Fries (fried lumpia wrapper with dip), it was bland. IDR 36,300 (US $2.80) at Madu Sari Mountain Restaurant

Green Banana Pancake, breakfast at Ronta Bungalow. It is different than the pancakes I usually have, but it is a refreshing change.

Rice with chicken and noodle topping. IDR 7,000 (US $0.54). The rice is beneath the brown paper that separates it from the chicken and noodles. It is usually eaten with hands, but plastic spoons are available.

Close-up of the food. It tasted good. I ate it at Denpasar airport while waiting for our flight.

The guy who sold me the rice with chicken and noodle topping.

Not really a Balinese cuisine, but we had fish and chips in Uluwatu.

Calamares in Uluwatu

Salak nangka or snakefruit, IDR 15,000 (US $1.16) for 1kilogram. This fruit travelled with Virg from Bali to Yogyakarta, and to Jakarta, and crossed borders to Quezon City.

    1. I agree. Parang feel at home tayo roon kasi malapit ang flavor profile ng ibang pagkain natin sa kanila, mas maanghang lang ang kanila. They do not scrimp on the spices, especially red chili peppers.
