One of my officemates was kind enough to bring me pasalubong from Mindoro Oriental. I am touched by the gesture and appreciate the kindness. Pasalubong from anywhere are now a rarity that buying one in its locale or getting one from its source is special. I received the pasalubong with excitement (especially when I saw the salted egg potato chips, which the same officemate gave me the last time she was able to travel) and consumed them with glee.
The pasalubong from Mindoro Oriental that I received include a pack of Big Ron’s Spicy Salted Egg Potato Chips, JMD Tablea de Paciencia, dalagang bukid, and tiping. As mentioned, I already tasted the salted egg potato chips and I am no stranger to tablea as I grew up drinking them. Dalagang bukid and tiping are new to me.
Big Ron’s Spicy Salted Egg Potato Chips are crisp, not overly oily, and tasty. Big Ron’s Spicy Salted Egg Potato Chips has potato, curry leaf, salted egg, and chili. The curry leaves and chili are visible on the potato chips, which not only add flavor but smooth texture that is a welcome relief from the salted egg coating. The spice level of potato chips does not scorch the tongue but only enough to titillate the taste buds.
JMD Tablea de Paciencia The Pure Cacao. As the name implies, it has 100% cacao beans. The 130-gram box has 10 tablets of tablea. It is manufactured by JMD Cacao and Coffee Products, Brgy. Odiong, Roxas, Oriental Mindoro. I have not tasted it yet but it smells good, which is a positive start for a tablea.
De Calidad Bread Haus Dalagang Bukid biscuits are thick, crunchy, and semi-sweet. They are yellowish-brown with a red line in the middle (I do not know why). They can be eaten on their own or can be dunked into preferred drinks.
De Calidad Bread Haus Tiping looks, smells, and tastes like Iloilo’s galletas. They are thin, white, and covered with powder. I consider galletas one of those unsung heroes of Iloilo’s array pasalubong, but it has always been one of my favorites. Tiping is now in that level for me.
De Calidad Bread Haus is in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro. Its contact number is 289-2756.
Thank you, Mich, for all the edibles from Mindoro Oriental! Sarap!
