Netflix’s La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) is a phenomenal caper series that has explosive ingredients in one cauldron, and I am not talking about the high-powered weapons within the Royal Mint of Spain. I am referring to the volatile robbers whose bickering almost always ends up with a dead body.
Some of the notable events for me for Part 2 of La Casa de Papel are the following:
1. Nairobi (Alba Flores) explaining to Denver (Jaime Lorente) the definition of Stockholm syndrome. Minutes later, Denver was the master the was the one explaining it to Mónica (Esther Acebo).
2. The love for football of all the male robbers.
3. Moscow’s (Paco Tous) solicited and unsolicited parental advices
4. Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) breaking Berlin’s vials of medicine while Denver and Rio (Miguel Herrán) watched like eunuchs.
5. Berlin’s (Pedro Alonso) live tv interview
6. Moscow looking like “Swiss cheese”
7. The Professor (Álvaro Morte) and Berlin’s singing Bella Ciao (which has a more profound meaning under the new circumstances in real world)
8. Berlin’s heroic stand. He remains my favorite character on this show, bar none.
9. PALAWAN!

Here are some memorable quotes from Netflix’s La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) Part 2:
Quotes from Part 2 Episode 1 of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist):
“The Inspector’s adrenaline and cortisol levels started to rise. Her heart rate and blood pressure increased, like a lioness hunting a gazelle. She was excited because she was very close to her prey. Raquel couldn’t help but wonder, would those clues actually lead to something or just more dead end.” – Tokyo or Silene Oliveira (Úrsula Corberó)
“The Professor had meticulously planned to take the police to Toledo, leaving behind a detailed crime scene worthy of an Oscar. It was littered with DNA from people unrelated to the robbery. What wasn’t in his plans was returning to plant fingerprints of those of us the police already identified. Berlin, Rio, and me. Also, throwing them off with anchovies and the pharmacy records. He intended to lead Murillo into a dead end that would make her lose at least three days. Three very productive days for us, since money prints at eight million bills per hour. Especially with the hostages’ help. Now that they are our accomplices, they expected to work and hoped to receive one day one million Euros in the mail.” – Tokyo
“We’re in deep shit right now, and you’re going to fuck?” – Tokyo
“There’s really no need to be vulgar. First of all, it doesn’t suit you and second, if I actually had to choose one of the ladies here from our group, hedonistically speaking, I’d choose you. Whatever happened to carpe diem?” – Berlin or Andrés de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso)
“Son of mother fucking bitch!” – Nairobi or Ágata Jiménez (Alba Flores)
“What a load of bullshit. There’s nothing more despicable than fucking a hostage. And you know it.” – Nairobi
“Wait, it’s not that bad being with a hostage, right? What? You can say I’m a good fuck or a bad fuck, but I never fuck at gunpoint.” – Denver or Daniel or Ricardo Ramos (Jaime Lorente)
Denver: I’m saying I saved her life. And she hugged me, kissed me. I didn’t force her into anything. It was love.
Nairobi: What do you mean “love”? Are you a complete idiot! You’ve heard of Stockholm syndrome, haven’t you?
Denver: No! Nairobi, okay, I’m sorry, I don’t think about that. But if she has a syndrome or a fucking illness, we’ll get over it together.
Nairobi: No! She won’t get over it because you are the one who’s causing it! Stockholm syndrome is when the hostage begins to develop feelings for their kidnappers. You’re the one who’s holding her. So yeah, she’s scared as hell. But you’re fucking oblivious, and you think it’s love. Honestly, what the fuck is wrong with you?
“What’s plan Chernobyl?” – Moscow or Agustín Ramos dos Hermanas (Paco Tous)
“No. You’re not gonna break up with me again, are you? I mean, come on, wait until we get arrested, do it with a letter or something.” – Rio or Aníbal Cortés (Miguel Herrán)
“Listen to me. Things are about to really get ugly. You know I can’t just stand by. I gotta go out shooting, but you don’t. I need to ask you a favor. When the party starts, turn yourself in. You wave a white flag and turn yourself in. That will be a better option for you when things get complicated.” – Tokyo
“When things get complicated, I’ll be with you. When they party starts, I’ll be with you. No matter what. And I tell you what, I only wave the white flag for Real Madrid.” – Rio
“Look at her! Look at her! First of all, she’s a civil servant. That means she studied a lot. Second, her last boyfriend was the general director in-charge of the Royal Mint. And third, she’s beautiful and refined. She’s out of your league, son. She’s in the Champions League. We’re more the struggling type.” – Moscow
“I get it! I’m a loser. I have to think like a loser. And I have to dream like a loser. I get it.” – Denver
“What’s going on? Have we already gone through our 60 hours of love?” – Mónica Gaztambide (Esther Acebo)
Denver: Mónica, you do realize I’m holding you against your will, right? You have a syndrome.
Mónica: What, what syndrome?
Denver: Stockholm syndrome. You fall in love with the son of a bitch that kidnaps you. You’re losing your mind, Mónica, treating me like your boyfriend. Doctors say it’s a psychological thing.
Mónica: Listen. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
Denver: Of course, you’d say that, you’ve got the syndrome.
Mónica: Denver, listen.
Denver: If you’d walk by me in the street, what if I tried to talk to you in a bar, would you even talk to me? Would you even have given me two seconds? Just tell me. The truth. Then, that’s it. You go your way. I’ll go mine. That’s it.
Mónica: Wait a minute. Do you have feelings? Feelings for me?
Denver: I’m not suffering any sundrome, Mónica.
Mónica: Denver. Do you have feeling for me?
Denver: Yes. But what I feel is real. It’s not from Stockholm. But you, I can’t let you lose your mind. I can’t. I can’t do that to you.
“I see you, and I want to know everything about you. Every day that you’ve lived, every smile, every tear. Every moment of happiness. You’re a wonderful mystery to me, Ariadna. For instance, let’s see. Your first kiss. Do you remember his name? What’s his name? Raul must be a lucky man. Like Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. First times are special. Unique. But the last times are beyond comparison, priceless. But people don’t normally know it’s their last time. You see, I have six months left to live. Or four. Maybe even less. And one of the few things that I really care about right now. Do you know what it is? To know that I’m going to live in here. In your mind. Forever. Inside this beautiful head of yours.” – Berlin
Berlin: Are you sure you want to do that? You should take it all with you.
The Professor: No. As of tomorrow, these are no longer memories, they’re simply evidence against someone under arrest. Besides, nostalgia can be seductive. We find it hard to let go of memories because we think that they are happy moments but they’re not. And what we’re doing tomorrow requires us to think about the present. Not the past.
Berlin: That was your father. And that’s the only thing that matters. We’re doing it for him.
“Don’t judge him. Helsinki did what he had to do. What soldiers do in war. What we do with animals to stop them from suffering. Not with hate, but as an act of compassion.” – Tokyo
“I also did what I had to do. Not out of hared, but because I’m human. After all, what’s more human than the fight for survival?” – Tokyo
Quotes from Part 2 Episode 2 of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist):
“It’s funny. A thing that’s as valuable as this is kept in something so fragile. Right?” – Tokyo
Berlin: I see you haven’t taken losing the elections very well, Tokyo. You should think about doing a little more personal work.
Tokyo: I’m not gonna sit around waiting for them to kill me because we fucking voted. You can stay if you want but you don’t decide it for me or for them.
Berlin: That’s it then. Go in peace. No problem. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I have spent some truly wonderful days with all of you.
“You don’t have what it takes. You don’t.” – Berlin
“We’re playing Russian roulette in here, Nairobi.” – Berlin
“You can’t stop and think for once in you goddamn life. Fuck! Fucking brainless piece of shit!” – Nairobi
“Didn’t you say no matter what? Then, this is the ‘what’.” – Tokyo
“Deep shit! Everything’s going to shit!” – Denver
“Come on. Let’s do this. Let’s do this. That’s enough. If this is the end for me, just shoot me. Come on, Tokyo. I’m dying. It’s not like my future is one that you can actually destroy. But if you’re trying to scare me, you better know that after you blow my head off, the only one who’s gonna be afraid is you. Because you killed the only person who knows the plan. And you won’t have a fucking idea on how to get out of this shit hole! It’s all of you who are playing Russian roulette! Do it! Do it!” – Berlin
“Rest in peace.” – Helsinki or Yashin Dasayev (Darko Perić)
“Rest in peace, Oslo. The quietest of the group. And the unluckiest. I would come next. I had it coming.” – Tokyo
“You look like a birthday present. You’re only missing the bow.” – Berlin
“Do you mind if I ask you a question. Why does it have to be the end of something? Instead, I think, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” – Berlin
“That’s how it all began. The beginning of the end of the heist. Of the days of confinement. Of my love for Rio. Of everyone’s dreams. Of my freedom.” – Tokyo
“You must always keep in mind the golden rule of the heist. Buy time. Buying time, which means, you’ll exhaust every possible way of doing so.” – The Professor or Salvador “Salva” Martín (Álvaro Morte)
Tokyo: You lied to us. You said no personal relationships, but Berlin calls you by your name. Sergio. Because that’s your name, right?
The Professor: Tokyo, maybe tomorrow, you’ll see things in a different way.
Tokyo: I’m not gonna see anything tomorrow. I got into this because I trusted you. You were supposed to be out guardian angel. Well, guardian angels don’t lie.
The Professor: My name is Sergio. Sergio Marquina. My father was a bank robber. He was killed in a shootout with the police outside a bank. It was him who had the idea for the heist. Tokyo, of all people on board, you’re the one with the hottest blood. And there’ll come a time when you think everything’s falling apart. Everything’s going wrong. That you’re all alone. But I promise you that won’t happen. I have it all figured out. Besides, I’m a lucky man.
Tokyo: You’re a lucky guy.
The Professor: Tokyo, I won’t fail you. You need to remember that.
“The worst thing that can happen when you’re in-charge of a heist is first, getting arrested for assaulting the ex-husband of the lead inspector. Second, that the police ask for your ID. And you only have a fake one. Third, they take your fingerprints. And if they match with the one that’s found in the patrol car that’s part of the investigation, even worse. Fourth, they take your personal belongings. Especially when one is keys to the hangar in which you run the operation and through which the escape will be made. And a flask with poison that you were going to use to kill the Inspector’s mother a few hours ago.” – Tokyo
“She couldn’t take it. And it’s not easy. I had no other choice but to turn her in. Let’s hold hands. Please. We’re all here risking our lives. It wouldn’t kill you to hold hands. When you have a wound, the platelets come together to close it. If they didn’t cooperate, the body would die. We’ve been wounded and must unite.” – Berlin
“There are rules here. We voted, and she didn’t accept it. And then she lost it.” – Nairobi
“Come on. Wake up! Open your eyes. Tokyo lost it, and we can’t have a bomb like her blow up in here.” – Nairobi
“When you leave, wave this over your head, so they know you come out in peacefully. There are snipers, and I wouldn’t want anything to happen to you. Give me a hug. I want you to do well. I want you to never stop believing in love. It’s precious. Trust me. Trust me. Trust me. Hey, you need to calm your mind so you can think more clearly. Trust me. Do it. Let yourself go. Let yourself go. That’s it. That’s it.” – Berlin
“Kill Berlin x infinity.” – Tokyo
“Do you always interrogate women in their panties?” – Tokyo
“I’ll bite my tongue, chew it and swallow it before I rat out on anyone.” – Helsinki
“Being interrogated is a skill. Like flying a kite that can crash at anytime. With your right hand you release the thread of the truth. When the kite takes off, when they believe you’re telling the truth, when they’re certain they’ll get something out of you, you pull on the thread with your left hand, stopping the kite. You stall them.” – The Professor
“Can someone explain why the fuck this girl is half-naked? I apologize for that.” – Inspector Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño)
“This time we’re gonna be practical. I ask and you answer. Who is the Professor?” - Raquel

“This is a fucking patriacrchy!” – Berlin
“What’s the matter with you, Nairobi? Is your period sync up with Tokyo’s?” – Berlin
“Right now, you’re young and pretty. You have a good body. In 12 years, you’ll still look good. Maybe with some interesting wrinkles. But if you get out of jail in 24 years, you’ll jump smack into menopause. And that … trust me is not a pretty sight. Don’t you think, Prieto? I know from his mother. And I’m not talking about hot flashes. I’m talking about feeling like you lost something important. Extremely important. And it vanishes forever. Your life.” – Raquel
“Inspector, do you really picture me in a garden raising a family? Changing diapers? Get fucked!” – Tokyo
“You know I’m not asking you to marry me. I’m just asking for a little sperm. You just stick it in, a couple of thrusts and I’m pregnant.” – Nairobi
“I had never felt so lost. I did not have anything anymore. I could only choose if I wanted to give up on my friends and try for a plea bargain with the judge for my cooperation.” – Tokyo
“It’s important that you face your mortality with humor.” – Berlin
“If you had lived longer, you could have been Paulo Coelho’s successor. That’s too bad. The world’s gonna miss out.” – Berlin

“Berlin, honey, I think you got a missed call.” – Nairobi

Quotes from Part 2 Episode 4 of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist):
“It’s only one battle. It’s nothing compared to a war.” – The Professor
“When you spend years obsessing over something. It’s your whole world. Your perfect world. But now the plan was not only the Professor’s. It was all of ours, and we were all fucking it up. For once, the Professor felt overwhelmed. And falling into Raquel’s arms seemed like the best comfort he could get. The only comfort.” – Tokyo
“Well, then. Are you with me or against me?” – Nairobi
“So it’s like a giant Christmas parade but with 50-euro bills.” – Denver
“You already know the Professor’s an idealist. He cares more about the message than the cash.” – Berlin
“Listen up, guys. We’re going to solve this robbery in 24 hours. We need to get our lives back. We’ve neglected them enough.” – Raquel
“The spectacle is much too big for such a small audience.” – The Professor
“By instinct, human beings always choose to side with the weaker one. The underdogs. So if we show the world our weaknesses, our wounds, that we are on the verge of surrendering, we will provoke an emotional reaction.” – The Professor
“I’m a hostage now. Don’t count me for anything.” – Denver

“This gesture is the beginning of end for everyone.” – Berlin
“I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a corpse before. But for some of us, it’s also our first time. You’ve come here to tell the truth. Here you have it. This is the truth. We’ve been thoroughly beaten. We’ve been defeated. It’s important that you confirm it, please.” – Berlin
“Maybe for the people out there, this man is no more than a thief. But to us, he was a colleague and a friend. No one prepares you for that. No one. It’s one of the reasons why we decided to release hostages. Some of us here already think that we won’t make it out alive. But frankly, I never thought it was gonna be him.” – Berlin
“We’re all just regular people. We’ve all gone through all kinds of hardship. Like anyone else. Like terminal illness, for example. And we have had to take desperate actions like these in order to make sure we can leave something for our families. To leave something for our loved ones.” – Berlin
“I may have been a thief. I have been all my life. I’ve robbed banks, jewelry stores, and I’ve even broken into mansions but I never in my life sold anyone. I’ve never in my life sold a woman. I never do anything as terrible as trafficking. Or raping minors. That’s not me. You can ask the police when you get out of here which files these cases are kept in.” – Berlin
“The police lie. The police have lied to the public. They’ve lied to my friends. They’ve completely dragged my family name through the mud. I am a thief. But I have every right in the world not to be defamed. I have the same right as anyone else to die in peace. With dignity. No, I can’t go on. Cut, please.” – Berlin

“You know what I feel like breaking some skulls. And yours feel good just about right now.” – Denver
“You’ve got a toy gun and I have a short fuse.” – Denver
“Let’s talk it over like civilized people.” – Moscow
“Palawan, yes. It’s an island in the Philippines. It’s southwest of the archipelago, a little to the north of Borneo. It’s population is 849,000, more or less, and the capital is Puerto Princesa. The sand is very thin in the tropics. You don’t like the Philippines?” – The Professor
“When your life falls apart, it doesn’t matter if you’re in a bathroom, in a heist, or at the front gate of a prison, you see, that afternoon, the misfortunes of three women would sync up. Raquel suddenly understood that she had fallen in love with the most wanted man in Spain. Mónica Gaztambide realized that she had just become an accomplice to the robbers, and that there was no turning back. And me, I continued following the instructions that the Professor gave us in Toledo. But without any certainty. Feeling numb. Like a bottle thrown out into the sea. Not knowing if someone on the other side was going to find it.” – Tokyo
“So, there I was, on my way to the courthouse, hoping that my guardian angel would know where the van was going and would save my life for the second time. It was hard to have hope when I was in that van, as a prisoner, handcuffed. But it would have been to know that at that very moment, 12 miles from there, my guardian angel had just been discovered.” – Tokyo
“It was him. Of course it was him. It had been him right from the start. Always friendly, always smiling, always in the right place. The only civilian who had set foot in the command tent. The stranger who managed to get past all her defenses one by one. And not only as a police officer.” – Raquel
“You see, the third time was the charm. And this time she had something much stronger than a suspicion. She had a grudge. She had rage. She felt embittered.” – Tokyo
“Do you what happens to people when they lack sleep? Their neural connections break down like a short-circuit. They stop secreting dopamine. They stop processing glucose. And the only information left in the brain is survival. So if there’s one thing you can’t ask from a guy who hasn’t slept in five days, it’s patience.” – Tokyo
“If you remove the cable, it explodes. If you try to run, if you sweat, if you touch yourself. If I touch this button, boom! Your wife won’t recognize the little piece of Arturito.” – Helsinki

“I need a cigarette. My baby needs a cigarette!” – Mónica
“If you come with us, I don’t know, we can call you Stockholm. I don’t know, it’s a stupid idea.” – Denver
“We were all exhausted. The lack of sleep, the stress, the anguish of keeping a secret for years in such a suffocating environment, was becoming increasingly difficult to keep. All of us, sooner or later, lost control. Except for Berlin. He was the only one who stuck to the sleep protocol. The others started to lose it.” – Tokyo
“I tried to be nice. I tried to give you what was promised. To free you from Berlin. I wanted all of this to make sense. After losing everything that I lost, I just want to have some meaning. I’m nice. And I’ve been kind. And the world doesn’t give a shit. And I tried to give you your space, but all you wanted was to fuck me over.” – Nairobi
“If everything works out, which is unlikely, I’m put in charge again, but if it all works out, I’d propose to you a deal, a romantic negotiation. Within a few days I’ll send you a plane ticket and we’ll go far away. If you want, you can come with me. For a short time. A lot of pleasure. And then when my story finishes, you can keep everything I own. I would be happy if you were to completely fall in love with me. But I don’t live on expectations or fantasies either. I have many flaws, I know that. I could settle for you being my companion until I’m gone. You and I together until the end.” – Berlin
“What do I have to do to get some respect around here? What do I have to do? Do I cut off one of your ears and send it to your father? Or do I shoot you in the leg so you can never fucking dance again.” – Nairobi
“The time has come to be practical. The utopia of collaboration has failed. Nairobi, I appreciate you allowing me to take some time off from my duties, but I think we’re all ready for me to assume control again.” – Berlin
“This is a marvelous moment.” – Berlin
“I told you that I would protect you, didn’t I? But I’ve changed my mind. It’s a lot more practical to torture you. In concentration camps, respect for those in-charge was mandatory. Well, here it’s going to work the same. You will be digging the tunnel until your hands are bleeding. At night, you might cry in agonay and yearn for relief, but the next day you will keep on digging. You’ll work in shifts without any rest.Otherwise, real punishment will be enforced. Just like your leader. A man who, if he betrays us again, will die. If he ever strives for freedom again, he dies. If he sweats, dead. A man I consider explosive. And now they’ll be afraid of you, Arturo. At least the ladies may call you the bomb. Since you’re an outcast, you stay here, secluded.” – Berlin
“Tick tock tick tock x 10.” – Berlin

“He died before he could carry it out. So this is a tribute.” – The Professor
“My father had a sick child, without a fucking penny. What would you have done? He spent his time thinking about robberies to pay for a hospital in the United States. Out of desperation for trying to save my life, my life, because no one, no one, helped him. He attempted to steal the money, they shot him in front of the bank. And that is the truth. I suppose there are many perceptions of injustices.” – The Professor
“You don’t need to trust anything, Raquel. It’s what I feel. I didn’t expect it. It just happened to me. I know it happened to you as well. If it didn’t happen to you, then, why are we here? Why am I not in prison? What the hell is this? Are you the crazy woman from misery? It’s something we’re both feeling. Both of us, do you understand? It happened to both of us.” – The Professor

And I’ll be waiting for you at the altar. I need to have my father by my side, for him to see it. For him to support me if I need it. Do you understand? I won’t stop. I won’t stop.” – Denver or Daniel or Ricardo Ramos (Jaime Lorente)
“You’re going to make a beautiful widow.” – Berlin

“I’m sure there are people who think that living with a dying man is boring, but they’re wrong. Quite the contrary. It’s living on the edge. Driving without the safety belt on. Riding a motorcycle without a helmet. Scuba diving without an oxygen tank. Letting go of the reins for good, no limits. And babies? How does that sound? Some mini-Berlins running along the beach. Just kidding.” – Berlin
