La Maleta de Cervantes

La Maleta de Cervantes is a Spanish book about Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quijote de la Mancha. It is a trip around the world, or at least to seven places, to illustrate the importance of Don Quijote, a “dreamer who loved books and adventure” and how he can inspire kids to do and be the same. It is a book for children and by the children from Madrid, Tetuán, Cracovia, Utrecht, Belo Horizonte, Manila and Nueva York.

According to the book, only children can see Don Quijote and his loyal squire, Sancho Panza. Amanda, a girl from Madrid is tasked to guard Don Quijote’s suitcase as he and Sancho travel far and wide. As Amanda traces their steps, she meets children from the seven places listed above, a dragon, a giant, and Don Quijote’s ladylove Dulcinea, among others, listens to extraordinary stories and travels by all means possible to catch up to Don Quijote and Sancho Panza. Also, she sees autobuses muy raros (referring to jeepneys) in sunny Manila.

The book comes with a CD, which I have not played yet. It looks very cute, though.
