Ateneo Art Gallery in Areté, Part I

Ateneo Art Gallery is the museum of modern art of Ateneo de Manila University. Established in 1960 largely due to Fernando Zóbel’s bequest of his collection of works by notable Filiipino artists, Ateneo Art Gallery has been home to hundreds of artworks that inlude paintings, prints, and sculptures. Some of the celebrated artists whose works have adorned and continue to adorn the walls of Ateneo Art Gallery are Fernando Amorsolo, Vicente Manansala, Napoleon Abueva, and Anita Magsaysay-Ho.

Recently, Ateneo Art Gallery moved from the second floor of Rizal Library to its new home, the Arts Wing of Areté. Currently occupying three floors of space, Ateneo Art Gallery now displays more than half of its collection without them looking crowded.

When I visited, the halls of the ground floor showcase paintings, prints, sculptures, dioramas, and posters. The second floor had the Elmer Borlongan Draws the Line exhibit. The third floor had The 70s: Objects, Photographs & Documents.

The following photos were taken from the ground floor.

Love it and Leave it: A legacy of Gifts to the Ateneo Art Gallery. The artworks on display on the ground floor halls were gifts from private individuals and corporations to the Ateneo Art Gallery. Some are gifts of the artists themselves.
